What is Gears of War: E-Day about?

Xbox Game Studios had lots to show for its upcoming Gears of War prequel set on Emergence Day, 14 whole years before the events of the original Gears of War game (2006). The game will follow Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in a campaign that follows the early days of the Locust Horde’s invasion of Sera.

Gears of War: E-Day features a few differences from the original Gears of War game, beyond its modernised sleek Unreal Engine 5 visuals. The game also now has a jump button and more movement abilities to allow players to get around Sera’s crumbling environments more easily. Familiar members of the Locust Horde will return, along with new monsters and villains.

Likewise, fan-favourite weapons from the original trilogy will also make a comeback, along with all-new weapons meant for close-quarters combat. The story campaign is joined by two more game modes: the PvE Horde Siege mode and the PvP Versus mode.

When is Gears of War: E-Day coming out?

Gears of War: E-Day will be an Xbox Series X|S exclusive, launching on 6 October, 2026.
