SEGA is ready to show off more of its next Virtua Fighter game.
SEGA and developer RGG Studio have officially unveiled Virtua Fighter Crossroads, the retitled mainline sequel originally known as Virtua Fighter New Project. The fighting game will feature a surprisingly in-depth story campaign, which was shown off in a new trailer that debuted at this week’s Summer Game Fest 2026:
What is Virtua Fighter Crossroads?
Virtua Fighter Crossroads is a brand-new entry in the Virtua Fighter fighting game franchise, following up on its last mainline instalment, 2005’s Virtua Fighter 5. Judging by this week’s Summer Game Fest trailer, the game is playing to RGG Studio’s strengths by featuring a surprisingly heavy focus on its narrative.
The trailer features a new fighter named Cielo, who bumps into various other members of the game’s cast, ending with the reveal of returning fighter Pai Chan. The game is set to feature four different main protagonists and third-person exploration in the city of Vilasapara. Choices made in and out combat will decide the flow of the story, and the specific alliances players may be able to build.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads will feature boss encounters and multi-opponent brawls in the main story. Additionally, the game will feature local and online options in Versus mode, with a streamlined control scheme carried over from previous games in the franchise. Sega has also confirmed the game’s production staff, which boasts some heavyweight names:
- World Building Supervisor: David Hayter (X-Men, Watchmen, Wolves)
- Lead Writer: Brad Kane (Ghost of Tsushima, As Dusk Falls, You vs. Wild: Out Cold)
- Scenario Director: Tsuyoshi Furuta (Like A Dragon series, JUDGMENT, LOST JUDGMENT)
- Scenario Writer: Shinji Yamamoto (Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 3, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the King Abaddon)
Virtua Fighter Crossroads will launch sometime in 2027.
