The LEGO Pokémon lineup is expanding with a few cheaper sets.
LEGO’s lineup of buildable Pokémon sets is expanding. This time around, the toy company is introducing Smart Play sets that allow fans to interact with their LEGO Pokémon in unique ways. 12 new LEGO Pokémon sets are coming with Smart Play capabilities, all of which are launching this August.
These sets are also (mostly) considerably cheaper than LEGO’s previously-revealed Kanto starter Pokémon sets, one of which cost US$650 at launch.
What are the 12 new LEGO Pokémon Smart Play sets?
LEGO has officially revealed 12 all-new Pokémon sets launching later this year. These sets will come with Smart Play features, which are described by the company as such:
"Children can attach a Lego Smart tag to a brick-built treat to feed their Lego Pikachu or tickle their Lego Charizard to get a joyful laugh. The more they play, the stronger the bond, as they prepare for spectacular battles with friends and family."
This will be the first time LEGO has opted to include Smart Play features in its Pokémon sets, having already done so with recent LEGO Star Wars sets. The 12 new sets also feature new Pokémon that haven’t been seen in previously-released LEGO sets, like Mewtwo, Sprigatito, and Umbreon–adding some much-needed variety to the lineup.
Here are all 12 of the new LEGO Pokémon sets revealed this week and their prices:
- Training House with Pikachu (US$69.99)
- Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle (US$119.99)
- Berry Bash with Bulbasaur and Bidoof (US$19.99)
- Trainer's Buggy Adventure with Squirtle (US$29.99)
