Dylan is awake, and a lot has changed since then.
Remedy Entertainment has finally locked in a release date for Control Resonant, while also offering the clearest look yet at where the sequel is headed. Launching on PlayStation 5 on 24 September, the latest story trailer puts Dylan Faden firmly in the spotlight, but it also addresses one of the biggest questions surrounding the game since its reveal: where does Jesse Faden fit into the story?
Alongside the trailer, Remedy Co-Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen shared new details about the sequel in a PlayStation Blog post, describing the footage as “a deeper look into a world no longer bound by the rules we understand.

When does Control Resonant launch on PS5?
Control Resonant will launch globally on PlayStation 5 on 24 September. To mark the announcement, Remedy released a new story trailer that offers a fresh look at the sequel's warped version of Manhattan.
In Control Resonant, the city has been reshaped by paranatural forces, creating impossible architecture, shifting realities, and streets haunted by monstrous entities born from a new form of resonance. The latest trailer offers a glimpse at these threats as players prepare to return to the world of Control.
Why is Dylan Faden the protagonist of Control Resonant?
One of the sequel's biggest changes is its shift in focus from Jesse Faden to her brother, Dylan. This time, Dylan is the sole playable character, a decision that Kasurinen said helps define the tone of the game.
As seen in the trailer, Dylan pushes deeper into the transformed city, facing Resonant manifestations and hostile forces. Along the way, he must learn to master both his growing abilities and the power of the Aberrant, a shapeshifting weapon that plays a key role in combat.
While Jesse stood at the centre of the first game, Remedy deliberately kept quiet about her latest journey. “We’ve been deliberately quiet about her new journey, because turning the dynamic around means letting the other sibling step forward: Dylan, the ‘face of the enemy’ from the original,” Kasurinen said.
According to him, Dylan's story drives the events of Resonant. However, Jesse continues to influence the path forward, with the siblings' stories remaining closely connected. “The Fadens’ arcs revolve around each other, and that’s what propels their shared story. Both games are, ultimately, about the siblings confronting their destinies,” he shared.
What role does Jesse Faden play in Control Resonant?
One of the biggest questions fans have been asking since the game was first revealed at the 2025 Game Awards was “Where is Jesse?” In today's State of Play trailer, the first game's protagonist finally makes an appearance, speaking to Dylan in his flashbacks.
Although Dylan is leading the story, Remedy confirmed that Jesse remains an important part of the sequel. “Dylan’s journey is shaped by Jesse’s actions as humanity meets a new existential threat.” Kasurinen added that “She remains central and has a presence in the game, but he’s the one moving the story forward.”
While the trailer focuses heavily on Dylan, these new details offer the clearest indication yet that Jesse still plays a significant role in the events unfolding throughout Resonant.
Dylan's past takes centre stage in the sequel
Control Resonant also explores more of the complicated history shared by the Faden siblings. Kasurinen described Dylan as a character who is not easy to root for. When players first encountered him in Control, Kasurinen described him as “a monster, a warped being ready to annihilate our reality.”
The sequel follows Dylan after a life marked by tragedy and manipulation. As a child, he was taken by the Federal Bureau of Control and raised inside an institution that attempted to control every aspect of his life. The situation ended in tragedy, leaving lives lost and Dylan confined for years.
Later, the paranatural force known as the Hiss overtook him during the disaster at the Oldest House. The event became the largest paranatural disaster in the history of the FBC, resulting in hundreds of deaths before Jesse arrived and stopped both Dylan and the force controlling him.
After being cleansed, Dylan fell into a coma and remained trapped within his own mind for years. Now awake, he finds himself trying to navigate a world that feels unfamiliar. At the same time, Jesse, the only real connection in his life, is missing.
“Dylan carries the weight of his past. But he wants to help, and he wants to find his sister. He’s confronted by one crucial question: who is he today?” Kasurinen said.
