Great news for Middle-earth fans: Warhorse Studios has finally confirmed plans for a new open-world Middle-earth RPG, alongside a new Kingdom Come project. The announcement arrived on Wednesday (20 May) through the studio’s official X account, teasing a return to Middle-earth with another massive RPG adventure on the horizon.
“You might have heard the rumours, it's time to reveal what we are working on,” the post read. “An open world Middle-earth RPG. A new Kingdom Come adventure.” Not much else was revealed in the announcement, though the developers said they were “excited to tell you more when the time is right.”

What is the Warhorse Middle-earth RPG going to be like?
While Warhorse Studios has yet to reveal gameplay details, story information, or where exactly in Middle-earth the RPG will take players, the project has already been linked to earlier reports and rumours dating back to September 2025.
According to Insider Gaming, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office was reportedly putting nearly US$100 million into the project, which was described at the time as a third-person action game similar to Hogwarts Legacy.
The official reveal now confirms that the studio is indeed working on an open-world Middle-earth RPG, though the devs have remained quiet on what form this journey across Middle-earth will actually take.
Earlier this month in May 2026, developers from Warhorse Studios also addressed the rumours during an AMA on Reddit, though Warhorse content director Ondřej Bittner neither confirmed nor denied them at the time.
“We are hard at work on … something. I cannot disclose details but I can tell it is a huge, immersive RPG,” he said at the time. “I personally cannot wait for the reveal! But the only timeframe I can put on it is: near future,” he added. “Sorry for the ultimately vague answer, but my hands are [tied].”
When is the new Kingdom Come and Middle-earth RPG coming out?
Warhorse Studios have not announced a release window for either the new Kingdom Come adventure, or the open-world Middle-earth RPG. So far, the studio has only confirmed that both projects are in development, with no launch details or platforms revealed at the time of writing.
