Bring your popcorn and your blaster–Fortnite has unveiled a sneak peek at the Watch Party Island for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu.

How to join The Mandalorian and Grogu Watch Party island in Fortnite

Two weeks ago, Epic Games’ Fortnite unveiled a full-fledged crossover campaign with George Lucas’ Star Wars universe for the month of May. Among the new game modes and shiny cosmetics arriving is also an exclusive early showing of the upcoming Star Wars film.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is a film continuation of Disney+’s The Mandalorian series. With its latest season concluding in 2023, it will have been over three years since fans last saw the beloved duo, and this time their return will arrive on the big screen.

Before that, however, Fortnite players will get an exclusive look at the first 10 minutes of the film on 19 May at 10.00 AM ET/10.00 PM GMT+8, days ahead of its 22 May theatrical release.

Building up the anticipation, Epic Games launched a trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu Watch Party Island–and it looks like a blast. You are not only heading to the island for a spectacle, but also diving into a galactic battle on a city based on Nevarro.

“Created with Fairview Portals and Beyond Creative, you’ll be recruited as a Deputy to collect bounties, defend the city from waves of enemies, and find Grogu. Once you’ve spent 20 minutes exploring Nevarro you’ll unlock the exclusive Mandalorian Sanctuary loading screen,” Epic Games announced.

The finale of the campaign comes later on 26 May, when players can assemble in the island’s amphitheatre to spectate a Q&A session with Jon Favreau, who will discuss the film and how the Watch Party Island was created.

What other films have been shown in Fortnite?

This is not the first time blockbuster cinema has graced Fortnite’s metaverse with an exclusive movie screening.

The major finale of Star Wars’ modern trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, received a full-blown live event in Fortnite ahead of its 2019 release. It featured an exclusive sneak peek at one of the film’s scenes, director J. J. Abrams appearing as a hologram, the Millennium Falcon engaging in combat with TIE Fighters in-game, and much more.

Now, the legendary franchise continues its Fortnite partnership, offering players an exclusive preview of its next Star Wars film.

Fortnite also previously hosted watch parties for Christopher Nolan’s films–The Prestige, Inception, Batman Begins, and a trailer for Tenet were shown in-game.

What Star Wars events are happening in Fortnite?

The Mandalorian and Grogu watch party is part of a broader Star Wars campaign that began on 1 May, and runs throughout the month. The crossover sees three new Star Wars game modes launched: the PvP 10v10 Galactic Siege, co-op survival mode Escape Vader, and the droid-building mode Droid Tycoon.

Star Wars-themed outfits and cosmetics have also arrived in the in-game shop, for those wanting to dress appropriately for the occasion.
