PC players may have to wait much longer.
Grand Theft Auto VI is on the horizon, but not everyone is getting in on day one. With Rockstar locking in a 19 November, 2026 launch for consoles, PC players are once again left waiting, and the reasoning behind it is already sparking debate across the community.
Take-Two have shed some light on the decision, and it comes down to a familiar Rockstar approach, in an interview with Bloomberg released on 5 May.

Why is GTA 6 not coming to PC at launch?
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the absence of a PC version during an interview with Bloomberg, pointing directly towards Rockstar’s focus on its core audience.
“Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core,” Zelnick said. “Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers.” This lines up with how Rockstar has handled nearly every one of its recent major releases. Console launches come first, followed by PC versions at a later stage, though timelines have varied significantly in the past.
Will GTA 6 release on PC later?
There is still no official confirmation of a PC version. However, the pattern of past Rockstar releases, combined with the scale of GTA 6, means that many players expect it to arrive on PC eventually.
Speculation around staggered releases has followed Rockstar for years, with some believing that players end up buying the game twice across platforms. At the same time, PC versions have historically benefited from additional polish, technical upgrades, and in some cases, stronger long-term support through modding.
That makes the lack of a day-one PC launch more noticeable in 2026, especially as PC gaming continues to grow. GTA V, in particular, saw a huge boost from its PC release thanks to its modding scene, which kept the game active well beyond its initial console lifecycle.
GTA 6 price concerns addressed by Take-Two
Zelnick also touched on concerns about how much GTA 6 could cost at launch. While he did not confirm a price, he pushed back against claims that it would be significantly higher than standard new releases.
With more details expected as marketing ramps up, pricing remains another key talking point, as Rockstar moves closer to release.
For now, console players are first in line when GTA 6 drops this November. PC players, meanwhile, are back in familiar territory, waiting to see if Rockstar follows through on a pattern that has defined its biggest releases for years.
GTA 6 release date and development timeline
Rockstar first revealed Grand Theft Auto VI in December 2023 before going quiet for over a year. The studio resurfaced in May 2025 to delay the game from its original Fall 2025 window to May 2026.
Another update followed in November 2025, confirming a new and current release date of 19 November, 2026. As it stands, the game is around six months away from launch, assuming that there are no further delays.
Take-Two has also stated that marketing for GTA 6 will ramp up in summer 2026, though no detailed roadmap has been shared yet.
