Roblox game '99 Nights in the Forest' is getting a film adaptation by 20th Century Fox

Roblox's 99 Nights in the Forest is coming to the big screen!

One of the most popular Roblox games, 99 Nights in the Forest, is set to receive its own film adaptation, with major studio 20th Century Fox securing the rights to the concept “in a highly competitive bid,” Variety reports.

This marks yet another Roblox title making the leap to the big screen. Story Kitchen, a studio specialising in video game adaptations, has also acquired the rights to develop adaptations of Steal A Brainrot and Grow A Garden–arguably two of Roblox’s most popular games over the past year.

Now, 99 Nights in the Forest joins the growing list of adaptations, with its film to be produced by 20th Century Fox, a major subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, known for blockbuster franchises such as Avatar, Star Wars, and Ice Age.

What is 99 Nights in the Forest?

99 Nights in the Forest plays out much as its name suggests. Players–either solo or with friends–must rescue four missing children while surviving in a dark and dangerous forest. Along the way, they must build a camp, gather resources, and evade unkillable monsters, most notably The Deer, all while attempting to endure increasingly difficult conditions.

While the gameplay centres on exploration, scavenging, and completing quests, it also features a narrative that could easily translate into the film adaptation. Touted as a “true story”, the game’s lore recounts rumours of a deer standing unnaturally on two legs deep within the forest, followed by the mysterious disappearance of four children. After failed search efforts, the forest was closed to the public–yet players are tasked with entering it to uncover the truth behind the events.

Released in March last year, 99 Nights in the Forest has amassed over 26 billion visits on the Roblox platform, with around 11 million peak concurrent players recorded last September. It remains one of the best performing games in terms of ratings and revenue.

Who is behind the film adaptation?

Details about the film adaptation remain scarce, as the project is likely still in its early stages of development.

But what we do know is that the game’s developers from Grandma’s Favourite Games–Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton, and Cameron Angland–will serve as executive producers. J.R. Young has also been appointed to oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
