Roblox's Steal A Brainrot movie is in the works, Story Kitchen spearheads production

Story Kitchen is bringing Roblox's Steal A Brainrot to the big screen.

Story Kitchen, the production company behind the successful Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise, has officially revealed that it is working on an adaptation of Roblox’s hit experience, Steal A Brainrot.

“We’re thrilled to bring Steal A Brainrot to the big screen,” Story Kitchen’s co-founders said in a statement, signing off with “brainrot” lingo: “Noobini Pizzanini 6-7.”

What is Steal A Brainrot?

Steal A Brainrot launched in May last year on the massive gaming platform Roblox, amidst a surge of “brainrot” content. In this context, brainrot refers to meme-driven characters with intentionally nonsensical names, such as Tralalero Tralala and Cappucino Assassino. These characters quickly went viral online, particularly among younger audiences, sparking the brainrot trend on Roblox.

While Roblox now hosts countless brainrot-themed games, Steal A Brainrot significantly outshines the rest. Its gameplay revolves around continuously collecting more valuable brainrots to increase overall net worth–a common concept in the ‘Tycoon’ subgenre. Various types of brainrots cycle through a conveyor belt–style display, with rarer characters appearing less frequently.

However, the game comes with a twist. Other players can steal your stored brainrots directly from your home. This forces players to balance browsing with caution, and defending their homes by swatting away lurking thieves. Alternatively, players can also choose to take the sneaky approach by stealing high-value brainrots from other players’ cribs, easily bypassing the cash grind and the wait for rare characters to appear.

The concept is simple, but highly addictive. Its popularity is reflected in player numbers, as Steal A Brainrot has grown into one of Roblox’s biggest successes, reaching over 25 million concurrent players during an update in October last year–surpassing the milestones of major titles like Fortnite and PUBG.

Steal A Brainrot becomes Story Kitchen’s second Roblox movie project

With its massive success, Steal A Brainrot has drawn attention from a notable film studio. Story Kitchen, a production studio specializing in video game adaptations, has confirmed it is developing a Steal A Brainrot movie in partnership with Do Big Studios and Spyder Games.

The project is led by prominent adaptation producers Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval, and is being produced in association with Think Influence, representatives of the game’s creators.

Story Kitchen has had its eye on Roblox for some time. The studio previously announced that a Grow A Garden movie is also in development–another Roblox sensation that had surpassed 20 million concurrent players several times.

Beyond Roblox, Story Kitchen is currently working on several high-profile video game adaptations, including Life Is Strange, Tomb Raider, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction.
