Fans can now appear in PlayStation games via the Playerbase programme.
Sony has launched an exciting initiative to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, introducing Playerbase, a programme that allows fans to sign up for a chance to be featured in PlayStation games.
The first title that will feature the Playerbase programme is the racing game Gran Turismo 7 by Polyphony Digital Inc. If you’re keen to see yourself in-game, read on for the details!
How PlayStation’s Playerbase works
To take part, players simply need to sign up and provide basic details, including their name, age, and location. The key factor that will set applicants apart, however, is their response to the question of how PlayStation has influenced their lives.
This will serve as Sony’s main metric for selecting their “biggest fans.” Additional criteria include originality, relevance, personal connection, and demonstrated engagement with PlayStation products, such as subscriptions, hours played, and more.
Selected winners will be invited to one of PlayStation’s visual art studios to have their faces scanned using the state-of-the-art 3D capture technology. Sony aims to create realistic digital representations of the winners’ faces.
Once scanned, winners will simply wait until later this year to see their faces appear in Gran Turismo 7, along with additional perks such as creating custom logos or in-game cosmetics.
How fans will appear in Gran Turismo 7
In Gran Turismo 7, scanned faces will appear as static portraits in the character selection menu. It is worth noting, however, that these fan portraits will only be visible for a limited time.
Winners will also enjoy other benefits. They will collaborate with a designer to create a custom Fantasy Logo and a unique vehicle livery, both of which will be added permanently to the game’s Showcase menu.
Sony will cover all travel and accommodation costs for winners and an additional companion, so there’s no need to worry about expenses.

Winners for the Gran Turismo 7 Playerbase will be announced in summer 2026. Selected participants will be contacted directly by Sony with further instructions on the next steps.
