Poker Night at the Inventory is getting remastered with free Team Fortress 2 items intact

Here’s your chance to grab some long-lost Team Fortress 2 items.

Poker Night at the Inventory is back, a whopping 16 years after its original release. This week, game studio Skunkape Games announced that a remaster of the crossover Texas Hold 'Em poker simulation game is set to launch next month, after both the original game and its later sequel were delisted from Steam.

Interestingly, the remaster will also include a few Team Fortress 2 cosmetic items which players can only get by playing the game.

Telltale Games’ Poker Night at the Inventory stars crossover characters from a bygone era of gaming pop culture: Max from Sam and Max, Strong Bad from Homestar Runner, Tycho from the Penny Arcade comics, and Heavy from Team Fortress 2. Hence, the game’s upcoming remaster marks the first mainstream-adjacent appearance these characters have had for quite some time.

Poker Night at the Inventory sees players participate in a Texas Hold ‘Em game of poker between themselves and the aforementioned crossover characters. These matches are run in the Inventory, a secret club that has been built underneath a video game storage warehouse. While the game’s poker gameplay is relatively simplistic, the fun is largely had by watching these characters interact with one another.

The game even received a sequel later in 2013, starring Ash Williams from the Evil Dead franchise, Claptrap from the Borderlands franchise, Brock Samson from The Venture Bros., GlaDOS from the Portal games, and Sam from Sam and Max. However, both games in the Poker Night series were eventually delisted from sale after their developer Telltale Games closed down.

Now, developer Skunkape Games is remastering Poker Night at the Inventory with a few improvements to its gameplay and visuals, bringing it up to par with modern gaming platforms. Aside from the improved graphical fidelity, the game also now allows players to change their starting buy-in amount for the poker games.

The game’s original poker code has also been reworked, with the developer claiming that poker games should now play much more accurately than before. Opponents will “make more informed decisions that better fit their play style and personality,” as per the Steam page.

Interestingly, this remaster also brings back the original game’s Team Fortress 2 unlockable cosmetic items. Simply by playing the game and winning items from the other characters, players can unlock the following Team Fortress 2 items:

  • The Iron Curtain: A minigun adorned with the finest of Soviet irons and mahoganies, this prized member of the people’s munitions cache could belong to just one person instead: You.
  • Enthusiast’s Timepiece: Traditionally acquired strictly through amicicide, the Enthusiast’s Timepiece can be yours to cherish, simply for knocking a man out of a poker tournament.
  • Crimestomper Combo: With the Lugermorph and License to Maim in hand, nothing will stand between you and your life-long dream of being a Freelance Police officer.
  • Dangeresque, Too?: Looks like you’re going to have to jump... into a hot new look! With this brand new pair of Dangeresque shades, you’ll always look and feel your best.

These items have been unattainable for quite some time now, as the game has been delisted on Steam for seven long years. Even more unlockables are apparently included in this remaster, though exact details have not been shared just yet.

Poker Night at the Inventory will launch on 5 March, 2026.
