Former Nintendo of America boss Doug Bowser joins Magic The Gathering owner Hasbro

Doug Bowser brings over a decade of gaming experience to Hasbro’s board of directors.

Doug Bowser, the former president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, has joined Hasbro’s board of directors following his departure from Nintendo at the end of last year.

Bowser spent more than a decade at Nintendo, including six years leading its North American operations. During his tenure, he oversaw the ongoing success of the Nintendo Switch, which became one of the fastest-selling consoles in history, and the record-breaking launch of Switch 2. Bowser frequently engaged with the gaming community, often acknowledging jokes about sharing his surname with one of gaming’s most iconic villains, Bowser from the Super Mario franchise.

He joins Hasbro alongside Carla Vernón, CEO of The Honest Company. The duo's appointments come as the company continues to manage and grow its entertainment and gaming franchises.

Hasbro continues to expand its gaming and entertainment portfolio

Hasbro owns some of the most recognisable names in tabletop and interactive gaming, including Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, Transformers, and Peppa Pig. Interest in D&D has increased in recent years, in part due to the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Larian Studios.

Hasbro chair Rich Stoddart said, “We are delighted to have Doug and Carla join our seasoned and dynamic Board of Directors. Doug and Carla bring extensive leadership experience across consumer brands and franchise management. Their expertise and guidance will be invaluable as Hasbro continues to execute its long-term innovation and growth strategy.”

Bowser’s appointment adds executive experience in video games to Hasbro’s leadership, complementing its ongoing focus on major franchises and interactive entertainment.

Both Bowser and Vernón are now onboard at Hasbro. At Nintendo, Devon Pritchard has taken over as president of Nintendo of America, while Satoru Shibata has stepped into the CEO role, retaining his duties as Managing Executive Officer and Corporate Director at Nintendo Co., Ltd.
