Palworld’s developers have teased upcoming content for the game’s biggest update yet, including the addition of a massive whale-like creature.
Developer Pocketpair has released a thank-you video on Palworld's second anniversary, 19 January, which also included several teases and first looks at upcoming new Pals–one of which appears to be a particularly massive addition.
In the video, John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s Head of Publishing and Communications, walks viewers through several upcoming Pals. The showcased sketches include a red water-lily dragon, an angry electric-yellow Pomeranian, an adorable blue bird with a fluffy white snow mane, a pair of ghostly twin entities, and a pointy fish capable of turning its spine into a blade.
The biggest reveal, however, comes near the end of the video when the clip cuts to a brief glimpse of a gigantic, fluorescent whale swimming toward a massive tree.
Many commenters noted that the whale looks similar to the one that appeared in previous Palworld trailers and content, dubbing it the “Sky Whale” or the “Colossal Whale.” Others have suggested that the creature may be connected to the fossils scattered throughout the game’s world.
Palworld 1.0 is coming soon
Palworld has been in Early Access since its launch on January 19, 2024. The game initially received mixed reactions, with many skeptics questioning its Pokémon-inspired gameplay combined with survival and combat elements. Despite this, Palworld sold over eight million copies within its first six days, and has become one of Steam’s top-performing games.
As Pocketpair continues to take its time polishing the final product, excitement is growing around what Palworld 1.0 will deliver. Anticipation is further fueled by the developer describing it as the game's “biggest update” yet.
While no official release date has been announced, the major update is expected to arrive sometime later this year.
