Bungie has officially confirmed that Marathon will launch on 5 March, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The announcement follows an earlier leak, where an Xbox Store pre-order trailer briefly appeared online, listing the same date and a Deluxe Edition. The trailer was quickly taken down, but clips continued circulating before Bungie finally confirmed the game's release details later in the day.

What is Marathon?
Marathon is Bungie’s upcoming PvPvE survival extraction FPS from the creators of Halo and Destiny. Set on the derelict colony of Tau Ceti IV, the game centres on bio-cybernetic Runners navigating hostile environments, while competing against rival Runners and the UESC security forces. Players must gather resources, weapons, and intelligence scattered across abandoned facilities and harsh landscapes, while uncovering the fate of the lost settlement.
The new gameplay trailer, narrated by Gantry, an agent of the anti-establishment faction MIDA, highlights the game’s six factions. Each faction offers distinct contracts and upgrade paths that influence progression and unlock narrative content.
According to a PlayStation blog post related to the game, customisation plays a key role, with weapons, mods, Runner shells, and implants allowing deeper strategic options. The endgame zone, Cryo Archive, opens in Season 1 aboard the UESC Marathon ship, where security systems must be bypassed to access frozen vaults and confront a mysterious entity feared even by the UESC.
Marathon pre-orders, Deluxe and Collector’s Edition are now available
Bungie has confirmed Deluxe and Collector’s Editions for Marathon, alongside the Standard release. The Deluxe Edition includes the Midnight Decay weapon and Runner shell cosmetic bundle, along with additional digital rewards.
The Collector’s Edition offers a premium unboxing experience, inspired by Sekiguchi Genetics’ shell-weaving process. Contents include a 1/6-scale Thief Runner Shell statue, a collectible WEAVEworm, digital rewards, and other themed items designed to immerse fans in the world of Marathon.
The game is available to pre-order now. Pre-orders will unlock extra in-game items, which include weapon cosmetics and bonuses for Destiny 2, linked through a Bungie.net account.
PlayStation announces Marathon Limited DualSense controller
PlayStation has also revealed a Marathon-themed limited-edition DualSense controller, designed in close collaboration with Bungie. The controller incorporates the game’s futuristic visuals, with bold graphics, vivid accents, and clean lines that make it feel authentic within the Marathon universe.
Bungie commented on the design, saying, “We were excited for the opportunity to commemorate Marathon’s launch with a limited edition design that would excite our fans and our team, and feel like a true part of the world we’re building.” They explained that the controller was intended to blend form and function, drawing inspiration from the game’s industrial design, architecture, and environmental aesthetics.
Bungie added that “we set out to create a design that paid homage to the bold graphic design, vibrant color and visual art direction of the game.” The resulting controller merges functional elements with the game’s signature futuristic style.
The controller launches alongside the game on 5 March, 2026, with pre-orders opening on 29 January, 2026 via direct.playstation.com and participating retailers. It will be available in limited quantities worldwide, priced at US$84.99 / UK£74.99 / €84.99 / ¥12,480 (including tax).
