Battlefield 6 delays Season 2 to February, Season 1 gets extended with double XP weekends

An extended Season 1 brings new progression paths and events, as devs takes extra time shaping what comes next.

Battlefield 6 players will need to wait a little longer for fresh seasonal content, as EA has confirmed that Season 2 has been delayed.

In a new developer update released on 14 January, the studio revealed that Season 1 will now be extended beyond its original end date, with Season 2 officially launching on 17 February instead.

Addressing the delay, the developers said they have been closely monitoring player response since launch, explaining that “during our ongoing development, we've continued to review community feedback and, in order to keep our promise, determined that our best path forward is to extend Season 1 and give ourselves extra time to further polish and refine Season 2.”

Season 1 was previously scheduled to end on 20 January, but will now continue until mid-February. A dedicated Season 1 extension update will still launch on 20 January, bringing new weekly challenges, a fresh Bonus Path, and continued access to the Season 1 Battle Pass across both Battlefield 6 and the free-to-play REDSEC battle royale mode.

Season 1 isn’t over yet, with new rewards and events still on the way

Despite the delay, EA was keen to stress that Season 1 still has plenty going on. The January 20 update introduces an additional Bonus Path alongside ongoing Battle Pass progression, with the studio stating that the extension will “set the foundation for new and exciting content throughout our live seasons, including what will come in Season 2.”

The Frostfire Bonus Path launches on 27 January, offering new customisation rewards such as a Weapon Package, Soldier Skin, Vehicle Skin, and XP Boosts. Importantly, players can progress the Frostfire Bonus Path at the same time as the Season 1 Battle Pass, with no need to choose between them.

Unlike previous Bonus Paths, progression this time is fully tied to Weekly Challenges. As outlined in the update, “all Bonus Path Points for the Frostfire Bonus Path are earned through Weekly Challenges; there are no Bonus Challenges associated with this Bonus Path.”

The Season 1 extension also includes Portal Community Experience showcases, several Double XP weekends, and a new set of daily login rewards. A Valentine’s Day-themed event is also planned later in the update window, with the team teasing players to “commit to your duo now, or forever hold your peace.”

Looking ahead, the developers confirmed that more details on Season 2 will be shared in February, alongside a wider roadmap for the year, saying they “look forward to sharing more details about Season 2 in February and a greater 2026 roadmap for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC in the near future.”

For now, players can jump into the Season 1 extension when it goes live on 20 January, with Season 2 officially launching just under a month later on 17 February.
