Ubisoft brings Rainbow Six Siege back online after a hack gave players billions of free credits

Ubisoft is rolling back its shutdown, following a massive hack.

Ubisoft is officially bringing Rainbow Six Siege back online, following a massive in-game hack that left some players billions of in-game credits richer, if not banned from the game entirely. The hack led Ubisoft to shut down the game on 27th December (GMT+8), before bringing servers back online today (29 November).

Ubisoft brings Rainbow Six Siege back online after hack

Ubisoft announced today on Twitter/X that Rainbow Six Siege is coming back online, after completing a rollback of all transactions from its in-game store over the weekend. This rollback is meant to restore players’ inventories from before 27 December, after which they might have had access to hacked in-game currency. Players who didn't log in from 27 to 29 December, however, will find that their inventories have been left untouched.

The company warned that “A small percentage of players may temporarily lose access to some owned items,” and that “investigations and corrections will continue over the next two weeks.”

While the game is back online, players are now reporting extraordinarily long queues, with login wait times stretching to the 24 hour mark for some. However, the game’s Marketplace will remain offline indefinitely, as Ubisoft likely investigates the hack behind the scenes.

The company had shut down Rainbow Six Siege on 27 December, following a massive hack that led to players’ accounts being manipulated. Players who logged in over the weekend reported suddenly having access to billions in Rainbow Six Siege’s in-game store currency, along with rare cosmetics they hadn’t earned. Others were banned seemingly without reason over the weekend, or likewise reported that they had been unbanned.

While Ubisoft is now removing the unearned currency and cosmetics from players’ accounts, it has also clarified that players will not be punished for using said currency or cosmetics. Instead, their inventories will simply be rolled back to earlier in 27 November, before the hack occurred.
