GTA VI’s second trailer used in-game footage from a PlayStation 5.
If you walked away from Grand Theft Auto VI’s second trailer thinking it looked a little too good to be a console game, think again. Rockstar Games took to social media this week to confirm that the open-world game’s latest trailer used in-game footage consisting of “gameplay and cutscenes” captured from a PlayStation 5.
Here’s the trailer, in case you (somehow) missed it:
Rockstar confirms GTA VI’s latest trailer was captured on a PlayStation 5
Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA VI’s second trailer featured in-game footage captured on a PlayStation 5 console, which all but confirms that the game isn’t getting a PC release anytime soon–not that this was ever in doubt. The trailer ended with GTA VI’s title card and launch platforms, as well as a telling bit of text: “Captured on PS5.”
Despite that confirmation, online viewers speculated that it couldn’t possibly be true. Given the crowd density seen in the trailer, and the visual fidelity displayed in its environments, character models, and more, Rockstar would surely have had to turn to a PlayStation 5 Pro to capture this footage in-game.
On its Twitter/X account, however, Rockstar confirmed that it did in fact use a PS5 to capture the trailer's footage, saying: “Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.” No mention of the Xbox Series X|S, but the game will be launching on those consoles as well.
GTA VI was recently delayed to 26 May, 2026, but the days following its new release date announcement have been eventful, to say the least. Not only did Rockstar release a new trailer for the game showcasing protagonists Jason and Lucia, but it also dropped a website containing information on GTA VI characters and locations.
We’ve broken down all of GTA VI’s character reveals here, and all of the game’s known locations here.
