The episodic superhero workplace comedy is turning heads with its quirky premise.
Another indie darling is making waves across the games industry. Dispatch, the debut title from Adhoc Studios, has officially crossed one million copies sold in just 10 days. The milestone was announced by the studio on Tuesday (5 November) through a post on X.
The post, which quickly gained traction among fans and fellow developers, celebrated what the team described as a “surreal” moment for the studio. Adhoc Studios, a relatively small outfit prior to the game’s breakout launch, now finds itself at the forefront of 2025’s indie success stories.
For those unfamiliar, Dispatch is a superhero workplace comedy that blends narrative storytelling with resource-management gameplay. Players take on the role of Robert Robertson, also known as Mecha Man, once a celebrated hero whose mech suit was destroyed in a climactic battle. Unable to continue his crime-fighting career, Robert is reassigned to a desk job as a dispatcher, now responsible for managing and rehabilitating a team of ex-supervillains turned reluctant heroes.
Episodic storytelling gives Dispatch the binge-watch appeal
Perhaps the reason why many are hooked, or even just intrigued to the game is in its presentation.
Dispatch is structured in two distinct halves. The first plays out through cinematic, choice-driven segments reminiscent of Telltale-style adventure games, with dialogue options and quick-time events steering the story. The second half shifts into a strategy-like hero dispatching mode, where players must send the right heroes to handle crimes around the city.
Each character on the roster comes with unique stats and perks, making team composition crucial. High-charisma heroes excel at de-escalation, while strength-focused characters are better suited for direct confrontation. At times, Robert can even remotely assist through a small hacking-based minigame, allowing him to influence missions despite being stuck behind a desk.
The game is being released episodically, with eight episodes planned in total. Four episodes are currently available, with Episodes 5 and 6 scheduled to drop later today (5 November).
Reception has been overwhelmingly positive. On Steam, the game holds a “Very Positive” rating, with 93% of players recommending it. Critics have praised its witty writing, heartfelt character arcs, and fresh approach to the superhero genre–one that focuses less on capes and action, and more on office dynamics, redemption, and the mundanity of bureaucracy.
With its strong sales debut and word-of-mouth momentum continuing to grow, Dispatch is shaping up to be yet another standout among several popular indie game releases of the year.
