Battlefield 6's battle royale mode REDSEC is free-to-play, officially launches today

The upcoming Battlefield 6 battle royale mode is getting revealed, and released, later today.

Electronic Arts has confirmed the name of Battlefield 6’s upcoming battle royale mode: REDSEC. The publisher is set to release a full gameplay reveal for REDSEC later today (11pm GMT+8), which has been confirmed to be a free-to-play game mode. The mode will also launch with the rest of Season 1 later today.

Here’s a link to the reveal video, though it will only go live later today:

Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode REDSEC sets gameplay reveal

Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Battlefield Studios have officially unveiled Battlefield 6’s next big game mode: REDSEC. The game mode has been confirmed to be free-to-play for all players, available separately from premium Battlefield 6 modes.

This lines up with previous reports that have hinted on the mode’s big arrival to Battlefield 6 this week, as a simultaneous release with the rest of Season 1’s content. The mode is set to be a big battle royale game mode with a map based on California, U.S., and has been in closed testing in Battlefield Labs for some time now.

Battlefield REDSEC release date confirmed

Ripple Effect Studios has been leading development on the new mode at Battlefield Studios, and will likely continue to develop live-service content for its foreseeable future. EA will release a gameplay reveal video for the mode later today at 11pm GMT+8, at which point the mode will also launch with Season 1.

EA has also posted a Twitch Drops announcement post for the mode, confirming that players can also tune into Twitch streams to grab cosmetics. The post reads: “To celebrate the launch of our free-to-play experience Battlefield REDSEC, available now alongside Season 1 of Battlefield 6, we are once again bringing back our Twitch Drop Campaign. “

Players can watch Twitch streams with Twitch Drops enabled to pick up in-game cosmetics like a Weapons Package, Soldier skin, and more.

EA has remained silent on the battle royale mode’s existence until now, suggesting that it plans to surprise players with its imminent release. However, recent rumours and reports have built up plenty of anticipation over the mode’s arrival, and it now has quite a few expectations to live up to.

Battlefield: REDSEC will officially launch later today, with Battlefield 6 Season 1.
