Don’t Starve tabletop adaptation tops US$4 million on Kickstarter, funds goal in five minutes

That Kickstarter surely isn't starving now.

The nightmare isn’t ending any time soon, and fans couldn’t be happier. Don’t Starve: The Board Game has become a runaway hit on Kickstarter, completely obliterating its original U$50,000 funding goal in only five minutes. With just a few days left in the campaign, it has just reached an eye-watering US$4 million plus in pledges.

Originally released in 2013, Don’t Starve built a loyal following as one of the most iconic survival games of its time. Its eerie charm, brutal difficulty, and quirky art style made it a cult favourite, so it’s no surprise that a tabletop adaptation would attract such massive interest. Still, US$4 million is no small feat, especially for a board game. Many high-profile projects dream of numbers like these.

Unlocked content: Glommer, Beefalo hat and more

In its latest update, Glass Cannon Unplugged wrote, “There are just 3 days left before we wrap up the campaign, and you’re not holding anything back!” The team then highlighted how the community had enhanced the game over the weekend.

The biggest reveal? Glommer. Fans quickly smashed the community goal to add the quirky flying companion to the board. The Glommer expansion comes with a mini, a standee, a dedicated board, Glommer’s card, a flower token, and two Goop tokens, bringing the beloved character straight to the tabletop.

Other Daily Unlocks (#18–20) include:

  • Beefalo Hat: A classic DIY survivor accessory that’s more iconic than ever.
  • Map Layout Cards: Two new cards for normal difficulty, bringing the total unlocked to 12 and adding variety to every playthrough.
  • Sound Board: The companion app now lets you play classic Don’t Starve character voices, from Glommer’s buzzing to the Gobbler’s taunts and Pengulls’ silly cawing.

New stretch goals: Wormholes, Starter Cards, and Regrowth Markers

Three new stretch goals have been unlocked, adding more ways for players to survive the Constant:

  • Wormhole Tokens: Jump into the unknown. These tokens let players fast-travel across the map while keeping that sense of unpredictability from the game.
  • Starter Cards: Draw two random cards at setup for extra resources at a small stat cost, adding strategy and variety to each playthrough.
  • Regrowth Marker Miniatures: Stylish miniatures make it easier to track regrowth on map tiles while adding a visual boost to the board.

Fans have also been sharing their favourite sounds from the game, from Glommer’s buzzing to the Gobbler’s taunts and the Pengulls’ silly caws.

Since the campaign just reached US$4 million, backers will unlock a Wurt acrylic standee and miniature, her character card, board, tokens, and ability cards. Hitting US$4.1 million will add a digital Wurt skin, the campaign’s final stretch goal.

Don’t Starve: The Board Game is targeting a release in March 2027.
