Zelda-inspired Mina the Hollower delayed, but not for long

The studio says the game is nearly complete but "just not quite there yet."

One of October’s most-anticipated indie games will be delayed. Yacht Club Games announced on Tuesday (7 October) that their upcoming retro-inspired action adventure, Mina the Hollower, will no longer be releasing on 31 October as planned, citing the need for a little extra time to polish the game before launch.

In a post titled Delay Extravaganza II: The Tail Continues, the studio shared that while development is nearly complete, they’re “just not quite there yet.”

“This isn’t a major delay, it’s just a stretch of time to apply some final polish and balancing to make the game truly shine,” Yacht Club wrote. “The entire crew has been working tirelessly day and night to finish development for release on Oct 31st, but we’re just not quite there yet.”

The developers also apologised to fans but reaffirmed their commitment to quality, saying they “will not waver” until the final product meets expectations.

“Our goal is to make sure our development team has the time and resources to deliver an incredible adventure and we will be giving you just that. That’s no hollow promise!”

Mina the Hollower is close to the finish line

While no new release date has been announced, Yacht Club said they won’t set one until the game has been fully submitted to platforms. They added that Mina the Hollower is “so close to being done,” with the developers already “playing it from start to finish every day.”

In the meantime, the team is focused on “finalising design, art, and sound,” improving overall game balancing, and implementing localisation, alongside some light-hearted tasks like “eating cheese.”

Mina the Hollower is a top-down action adventure that channels the look and feel of Game Boy classics such as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, combined with the gothic atmosphere and combat flair of Castlevania.

Following its well-received Steam Next Fest demo earlier this year, anticipation has remained high for the studio’s next big project after Shovel Knight. And while the delay might sting for eager fans, it seems the wait won’t be too long—Mina the Hollower is almost ready to rise from the depths.
