For the Weavers who come after.
Hollow Knight: Silksong finally arrived on 4 September, but the buzz around the Metroidvania hasn’t slowed down. Beyond the launch excitement, fans are now pointing to a possible Silksong Easter egg tied to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the French JRPG that debuted earlier this year. The speculation comes just as Expedition 33 developer Sandfall Interactive shared their congratulations with Team Cherry in a playful way.
On 10 September, Sandfall posted a piece of fan art celebrating Silksong’s release, showing Hornet poised with her needle. Alongside the artwork, the studio wrote: “Congratulations Team Cherry on the release of Silksong, a precious game made with love and care.” They also added a cheeky twist on their own famous phrase with: “for the weavers who come after!”, which is a nod to Expedition 33’s iconic line.
The Expedition 33 Easter Egg in Silksong that fans are talking about
That phrase is instantly recognisable to Expedition 33 players. Gustave, one of the game’s central characters, repeatedly says “for those who come after” throughout the story, a line that also serves as the title for a well-loved track from the soundtrack.
So when Silksong players noticed Hornet speaking while playing an instrument, nearly the same words during a rain-soaked sequence: “Through ages… Bound… Forgotten… Faded… For those who come after…” speculation took off.
A post on X pointing out the overlap has pulled in more than 15,000 likes, with the X user expressing their surprise. "There is an expedition 33 reference in silksong???”
X user @MagaTsuTen also shared the actual clip of the easter egg on the same platform.
Team Cherry hasn't confirmed whether this is an intentional Expedition 33 reference or just a coincidence, but with Sandfall’s April release still fresh in players’ minds, the timing has raised eyebrows.
Intentional or not, fans have embraced the moment as a bit of wholesome fun between two small but ambitious studios. Both Hollow Knight: Silksong and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are already being discussed as Game of the Year contenders, and this playful overlap has added an extra spark to the conversation. Instead of competition, the crossover has left communities celebrating what feels like mutual admiration.
