Sony is becoming Evo’s new global sponsor.
Sony Interactive Entertainment is selling its stake in the major fighting game esports event Evo (Evolution Championship Series). The company sold its Evo stake to Nodwin Gaming, and will now become Evo’s global sponsor from now until 2028.
Nodwin is also backed by Sony Group Corporation, and will now effectively co-own the tournament.
Sony sells off Evo stake, becomes tournament’s global sponsor
Sony Interactive Entertainment is selling its stake in Evo to Nodwin Gaming. Sony had announced its acquisition of Evo back in 2021, but it looks like the company is now choosing to shift gears. Instead of co-owning the tournament, Sony will now become its latest global sponsor through 2028.
The move comes at an interesting time for Sony, as its PlayStation Studios-published fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls recently turned heads at Evo 2025 with a closed beta announcement, and public game demos. The game will likely see competition during future Evo events, and is slated to launch sometime in 2026.
Nodwin Gaming will now be a co-owner of Evo, alongside operator and co-owner RTS. Qiddiya, a Saudi Arabia tourism project, also announced that it was investing in RTS today, and plans to partner with Evo through 2027. Nodwin's co-founder Akshat Rathee said of the announcement:
“Evo was built by a team whose authenticity and passion for the fighting game community are unmatched. We will continue SIE’s great work and honor the legacy of everyone who has made it what it is today, while opening the door for a new generation to experience the spirit of Evo.”
Evo has not announced any dates or additional details regarding its 2026 iteration, and it is currently unknown how this week’s change in ownership will impact the event.
