New Resident Evil Requiem trailer features the return of a familiar face from the franchise

Grace Ashcroft is wanted by mysterious foes, but why?

Capcom showed up at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a meaty new look at Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline installment in its iconic horror-survival series. This time around, the developer showed off a trailer featuring snippets of gameplay and cinematics from the upcoming game, diving into the backstory of its new protagonist Grace Ashcroft. The trailer also seems to confirm that Grace Ashcroft is, indeed, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak.

Grace Ashcroft is having a bad time in Resident Evil Requiem’s new trailer

Capcom promised a better look at Resident Evil Requiem during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and boy did it deliver. During this week’s livestream, the developer dropped a new trailer exploring the backstory of Grace Ashcroft, the franchise’s latest protagonist.

This trailer features Alyssa Ashcroft, a returning character from the Resident Evil Outbreak series, and Grace Ashcroft’s mother. We see Alyssa frantically pull Grace from shelter after the power goes out in their flat, before they witness an unknown cloaked individual murdering someone in cold blood.

The trailer ends with Grace and her mother escaping to safety, before her mother is apparently killed gruesomely before her eyes. It’s a short, but effective look at the sequel’s new mysterious threats, as well as its traumatised protagonist. Grace might not be ready for the field yet, but as we’ve seen in the game’s first trailer, she’s going to end up going on a horrifying new journey anyway.

Resident Evil Requiem launches on 27 February, 2026.
