Umamusume Pretty Derby releases new trainee Curren Chan, support cards, and Legend Races

Umamusume's latest update will shine the spotlight on Sprints, with a new Sprint Pace Chaser available to conquer them.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby released a hefty new update on Monday (28 July), featuring a new 3-star trainee banner for Curren Chan, Yukino Bijin (SSR) and Nishino Flower (SR) Support Cards, and the first set of ‘Legend Races’ for the game's global release against the likes of King Halo and Sakura Bakushin O.

Here's what you need to know about the latest Umamusume update:

New 3-star trainee: [Fille Éclair] Curren Chan

Curren Chan is a new trainee specialising as a Pace Chaser in Sprint-type races on Turf, though she can also excel as a Front Runner with the right Legacies. Her unique skill, ‘#LookatCurren’, boosts her capabilities as a Pace Chaser by boosting her momentum when passing another racer, while in a good position halfway through a race.

Curren Chan's innate skills include ‘Ramp Up’, ‘Disorient’, and ‘Intimidate’. Awakening her Potential also unlocks ‘Meticulous Measures’, ‘Dazzling Disorientation’, ‘Prepared to Pass’, and ‘Adored by All’. She can also unlock ‘Frenzied Late Surgers’ and ‘Sprinting Gear’ from her Career events. Curren Chan will be a valuable pull if you want to clear the current set of Legend Races, all of which will be Sprints.

Curren Chan's real-life point of inspiration is a mare whose pedigree features Maruzensky as her great-grandsire through her mother Spring Ticket. During her career from 2009 to 2012, Curren Chan became known as a top-class sprinter after winning five consecutive races in 2011. Some of her Major wins included the Hanshin Himba Stakes (2011), Hakodate Sprint Stakes (2011), Keeneland Cup (2011), Sprinters Stakes (2011), and Takamatsunomiya Kinen (2012).

Curren Chan can be acquired through the Pretty Derby Scout banner.

New Support Cards: SSR Yukino Bijin and SR Nishino Flower

The game's latest update also features two new Support Cards: SSR Yukino Bijin and SR Nishino Flower. SSR Yukino Bijin will be a Wit-type Card, while SR Nishino Flower will be a Power-type card.

The SSR Yukino Bijin Support Card can provide your trainee with the 'No Stopping Me!' and ‘Corner Acceleration’ skills while also providing hints for the following skills: ‘Winter Runner’, ‘Nakayama Racecourse’, ‘Steadfast’, and ‘Medium Corners’. With Wit being one of the universal Training types players used in any Umamusume's Career, the SSR Yukino Bijin Support Card should make for a valuable pull. With that said, the ever-valuable SSR Kitasan Black Support Card will still be available until 1 August, so we recommend going for a copy or two of that first before spending your Carats on the SSR Yukino Bijin Support Card.

Meanwhile, the SR Nishino Flower Support Card can provide your trainee with the ‘Straightaway Adept’ and ‘Straightaway Acceleration’ skills while also providing hints for the following skills: ‘Hanshin Racecourse’, ‘Standard Distance’, ‘Firm Conditions’, ‘Pace Chaser Corners’, and ‘Updrafters’.

New Legend Races: King Halo, Taiki Shuttle, Sakura Bakushin O, and mystery Umamusume

New to Umamusume's global version, Legend Races are limited-time Race Events wherein players can challenge a Legend Umamusume to earn valuable rewards, including Star Pieces for the Legend Umamusume you're challenging. Players need a Legend Race Ticket to participate in a Legend Race, with three being given every day at the daily reset time. These Legend Race Tickets are just like Daily Race Tickets and don't carry over if unused, so use them even if you're not confident of victory.

The specific rewards players can earn from Legend Races will vary from race to race, though they are guaranteed to receive Entry Rewards for participating, plus Victory Rewards if their Umamusume defeats the Legend Umamusume and finishes in first place. Players can also earn First Victory Rewards after the first time they win a Legend Race.

The first set of Legend Races will feature King Halo, Taiki Shuttle, Sakura Bakushin O, and one mystery Umamusume. King Halo can be challenged from 28 to 30 July, Taiki Shuttle from 30 July to 2 August, Sakura Bakushin O from 2 to 5 August, and the mystery Umamusume from 5 to 8 August.

King Halo, Taiki Shuttle, and Sakura Bakushin O are all strong racers in Sprints, so make sure the Umamusume you're running against them have enough Speed and Stamina to outrun and outlast them.
