Less sponge, more damage, and one very unfortunate redownload problem for PC players.
Control Resonant players who preloaded the game on Steam got an unpleasant surprise at launch: another 92 GB download. Remedy Entertainment released a launch hotfix for Control Resonant alongside the game's global launch on Thursday (24 September), tackling some of the biggest complaints surrounding its early-game combat.
Unfortunately, the way the update was deployed also forced some PC players who had already preloaded the game to download the whole thing again. The developer has since apologised for the mess, admitting that the redownload was caused by an oversight on its end. "We don't have an excuse," Remedy said.

Control Resonant patch reduces enemy health and buffs Dylan
The main focus of the hotfix is something players and reviewers had already been talking about before the game's wider launch: enemies could feel way too tanky, particularly during the opening hours.
The studio said it had been following player feedback, reviews, early player data, and its own playtesting before deciding to make changes to enemy health pools, the amount of Falter required to stun enemies for executions, and Dylan's early-game damage output. "Depending on player progression, enemies can feel too tanky during the early hours of the game," the developer acknowledged.
The patch reduces the base health and required Falter level of most enemies, including the Dancer and Deserter bosses. Maximum Aberrant Strength and Ability Strength have also been increased, with the boosts becoming progressively larger as Dylan earns more upgrades.
It's also a problem we ran into ourselves. In GosuGamers' review of Control Resonant, which scored the game an 8/10, we found that some early encounters started to drag because tougher enemies simply took too long to put down. Those changes target that exact issue by cutting enemy health while increasing Dylan's damage potential as his build develops.
Build experimentation should be a little easier as well. Respeccing now costs less, vendors will carry more Reset Items, and the first Resonant boss, The Artist, will drop two Reset Items instead of one. A couple of English UI descriptions have also been rewritten to better explain Aberrant Strength and Build Power, with other localisations set to follow.
Players who preferred the previous difficulty can still use Control Resonant's Assist Mode sliders to adjust things such as enemy aggression, incoming damage, and ability recovery.
The patch created a different problem on PC, though. Players who had already preloaded Control Resonant on Steam began reporting that the game was downloading almost its entire installation again once the hotfix landed. One Reddit thread warning players about the new patch quickly filled with players discovering the same thing. One user said they had been ready to play when Steam suddenly started downloading the entire game again, while another reported seeing a fresh 92 GB download despite having already completed the preload. "As soon as it released, it redownloaded the entire 92gb. Even though it was fully preloaded," one player wrote.
A Steam discussion about the disappearing preload drew hundreds of replies as well, with players reporting that their completed download had effectively been wiped and restarted.
Remedy acknowledged the problem directly, explaining that releasing the hotfix "triggered certain platform mechanisms on PC," which forced players who had already downloaded Control Resonant to do it again. "This was an oversight on our part. We don't have an excuse, we would only like to sincerely apologise to everyone affected," the developer said. “We will learn from this experience and strive to prevent similar issues in the future.”
