Fans are furious over GTA VI’s Collector’s Box not including the base game despite a US$400 price tag.
The Collector’s Box for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI, officially revealed as “The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection”, was announced last night on 24 September, and fans are not happy with what is on offer.
The collection, which mainly features characters from a fictional TV show within the GTA VI universe called “Macca the Gator” and no appearances from protagonists Jason and Lucia, carries a $400 price tag despite not including the base game.

The GTA VI’s Collector’s Box includes:

Fans call out the pricing of GTA VI’s Collector’s Box
While game publishers have gradually moved away from including physical copies in collector’s editions, GTA VI takes it a step further by not including the base game at all. At US$400, the package also does not offer the kind of merchandise some fans expected for the price.
The Collector’s Box for GTA VI has since been compared with collector’s editions from several recent games. The Gears of War: E-Day Collector’s Edition, which launches on 1 October, is priced at US$300 and includes a physical copy of the game. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced’s Collector’s Edition costs US$200 and also includes a digital copy of the game.
“I'm extremely disappointed with the GTA Collector's Edition!! Charging €400 and not even including the game is a joke, and the box and extras look cheap and childish,” one comment under Rockstar’s announcement read.
Another response to the Collector’s Box reveal criticised the merchandise, calling Rockstar “out of their god damn minds” for putting a US$400 price tag on a collection that does not include the game, an artbook, steelbook case or anything “that could justify its absurd cost”.
Though apparently, the collaboration glasses with Oakley is said to be the catalyst for its hefty price. The brand produces high-performance sports and lifestyle eyewear that can range from US$130 to beyond US$500.
Nonetheless, fans of the franchise have loudly expressed their frustration over Rockstar’s Collector’s Edition, a major letdown given that it is tied to one of the most anticipated games of the decade.
Those interested can still look forward to the Collector's Box release plus other packages, on 19 November, with pre-orders already open.
Note that the GTA VI Collector’s Box is only available in select regions, is limited to one purchase per person, and requires customers to log in to the Rockstar Store.
