Senua’s Saga Hellblade II set to launch on PS5 this summer with Enhanced Edition

The upcoming PlayStation 5 release of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will introduce new features and enhancements, which will also be added to its Xbox and PC versions.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, previously an Xbox and PC console exclusive, will officially launch on PlayStation 5 this Summer as an Enhanced Edition, Microsoft has confirmed. The announcement marks another notable shift in Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy, with more of its first-party titles making their way to Sony’s platform in recent times.

The announcement was made on Wednesday (21 May), on developer Ninja Theory’s X (formerly Twitter) account, along with a trailer that was released on Ninja Theory’s YouTube page:

While a firm release date has not yet been revealed, the news arrived in a video update from developer Ninja Theory, posted today to coincide with the anniversary of Senua's Saga: Senua's Saga: Hellblade II's original release on PC and Xbox consoles.

Enhanced Edition brings new features to all platforms

According to Ninja Theory’s Studio Head Dom Matthews, this version of the game “will include some new features” which will also be rolled out on Xbox and PC as an update, during the game’s PS5 launch date.

"The team have been working hard to optimise Senua's Saga: Hellblade II for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro to give you the very best experience we can," Matthews shared.

This move follows a string of similar releases, as Microsoft increasingly positions PlayStation as another outlet for its first-party titles. Earlier this year, titles such as Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment also arrived on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, signalling a broader shift in strategy.

Senua’s Saga: Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is the dark, atmospheric sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, continuing the story of Senua, a Pict warrior battling both the physical world and the psychological torment brought on by psychosis. Set in 10th-century Iceland, the game follows Senua’s journey as she confronts mythological foes, inner demons, and the brutal forces that threaten her people.

Ninja Theory once again collaborated with neuroscientists and mental health professionals to ensure an accurate and respectful depiction of Senua’s condition, blending myth and reality into a visceral, emotionally charged experience.

GosuGamers, found Senua’s Saga: Senua's Saga: Hellblade II to be a “fantastic sequel that surpasses the original, thanks to its cutting-edge visuals, an expanded cast of characters, and a brutal combo-based combat system that adds more depth to its intense storytelling.”

The game also won multiple awards like Best Performance (Melina Juergens) and Best Audio Design at the 2024 Game Awards, Best Audio Mix and Best Voice Performance (Melina Juergens) at the 2024 Game Audio Network Guild Awards, Best Game, Franchise Action and Best Lighting/Texturing at the NAVGTR Awards 2024, and the Technical Achievement award at the 21st British Academy Game Awards.
