Dressmaker broke into the Top 100 best-selling Steam games shortly after it launched on 21 September.
A cosy styling and management game, Dressmaker, launched on 21 September to overwhelmingly positive reception and has become the latest viral hit on Steam. The game raked in thousands of players and just 24 hours later, has made enough revenue to recoup its development costs, studio Cozy Lives announced.
With Dressmaker gaining traction across the internet, including among content creators in the cosy gaming community, the game is already becoming the next indie hit.

Dressmaker reaches over 13,000 peak players days after launch
Publisher of Dressmaker, Free Lives, has published several games on Steam including Terra Nil, Broforce and GORN 2, all of which have been action-centric and violent. It’s interesting to see the same publisher pivot with its latest title, delivering a cosy and tactile tailoring simulator that has quickly become its most successful launch.
Within hours of release, Dressmaker attracted thousands of players and has now peaked at 13,326 concurrent players around 12 hours ago, as per SteamDB. The game experience has also been widely praised by players, with Dressmaker achieving an Overwhelmingly Positive rating stemming from over 1,400 reviews.
This has propelled Dressmaker into Steam’s Top 100 games for the week, making its debut at No. 89 on the chart–an impressive feat for an indie production. As its player base continues to grow, the game could climb even higher on the leaderboard.
What is Dressmaker about?
As its name suggests, Dressmaker lets you experience the fun and struggles of being a dressmaker. In this simulation, you can choose from more than 150 dress pieces, 450 fabrics and over 350 accessories to design clothes that can fulfil the requests of townsfolk. Based on your performance, you can build your reputation and earn coins, allowing you to further expand and upgrade your selection.
The studio has also highlighted that the designs are all made by hand or via a digital drawing tablet.
Upon launch, Cozy Lives promised that more content would be added further down the line. This includes an online challenge mode, where players can compare and vote on dress designs with others online.
The studio further mentioned plans for transparent fabrics, improved controller support, as well as mobile and Nintendo Switch ports.
