Mech game Autonomica's Kickstarter blows past US$500K after EA cancels Titanfall game

An indie studio has launched a mech-filled survival game, smashing its Kickstarter goal in just 24 hours.

Titanfall fans may have been left gutted after the announcement that the newest Titanfall extraction-shooter was cancelled following the 300+ layoffs at Electronic Arts last week, but one indie studio didn’t waste any time.

Soon after news of the cancellation broke, Crytivo posted about one of its upcoming games, Autonomica, on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "No new Titanfall? Fine. We built our own," alongside a slick clip of a character jumping into various big mechs, Titanfall-style. And to top it off, some of those mechs have bunny ears.

The devs also launched a Kickstarter on the same day with a US$170,000 goal, sharing more details about the game and a full roadmap of its stretch goals. Support came flooding in, with the Kickstarter smashing its goal and hitting every milestone within just 24 hours, closing the day at US$533,927.

What is Autonomica?

Autonomica is certainly no Titanfall. Sure, it’s got mechs–and some pretty cool ones at that–but that’s about where the similarities end. Instead, it’s an open-world survival game packed with farming, automation, life-sim elements and a laid-back solarpunk vibe.

“We're creating a world designed around harnessing clean energy, from cozy farms to solar-powered mega-factories. Every task, like watering crops, harvesting resources, or running production lines, can be done manually if you enjoy staying hands-on."

The devs added that automation kicks in when players want it, letting them streamline routine tasks and focus on exploring, building, and shaping the world. "Grow organic crops, manufacture synthetic products, and steadily expand your farming operation.”

There’s a lot going on in Autonomica: character customisation, relationship-building, farming over 100 crop types, mech traversal, ghost-hunting, dynamic weather, multiplayer modes, and even time travel. It’s all wrapped up in a romantic retro sci-fi world, complete with synthwave vibes and chunky old-school tech.

The game’s rolling out in stages, with Alpha access planned for September 2025, a Beta sometime in 2026, and a full launch aimed for October 2026.
