The team behind Deceive Inc. has reached its “breaking point” and is unable to continue operating.
In an official statement to Deceive Inc.’s official game forum, co-founder and lead designer Philippe Pelletier Baribault, who also goes by the username ‘Baribandit', shared to fans news that the Sweet Bandits Studio team is “no more.”
Baribault cited the reason for this shutdown being that the studio had reached its “breaking point” after a “long and difficult road of trying to get Deceive Inc. in a state where it could thrive” and therefore could no longer continue with the game.
While the news is saddening for everyone involved, Baribault thanked the community who backed Deceive Inc., emphasising on the community’s passion as the driving force for the studio to “try and make [this] project reach the potential it has.”
Although Sweet Bandits Studio is closing down, Deceive Inc. has yet to sunset. Baribault divulged that options are being considered by their partners at Tripwire Interactive, the company that published their game. As decisions are still being made, Deceive Inc.’s servers and game access will continue “as they have been” and any news or updates regarding the game’s fate will be announced at a later date.
Deceive Inc. released worldwide on March 21, 2023, and boasts a 94% positive rating by Google users, as well as a 9/10 user rating on Steam. The game also received generally favourable reviews on Metacrtic. Deceive Inc. features a multiplayer gameplay, with a first-person shooter perspective where players go undercover as the world’s greatest spies. Deceive Inc. launched on Windows PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox series X|S.
