Invincible’s comic book publisher wants to make an ambitious crowdfunded Invincible game.

Skybound Entertainment, a media company founded by Invincible and The Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman, wants to make an ambitious AAA Invincible videogame. The game will be crowdfunded and based on Amazon Prime Video's animated adaptation of the Invincible comicbook series, developed by a 30-person studio. Kirkman himself will also be involved in the game’s development.

The game is said to be, “the first of many,” Invincible, The Walking Dead and more IP that Skybound plans to make games for in-house.

Big-budget Invincible game adaptation begins crowdfunding

Skybound’s crowdfunding campaign has already surpassed its original fundraising goal of $50,000, having raised over $530,000 at the time of writing. The campaign will end on April 30, with each investor required to make a minimum of a $100 investment to participate. The raised funds will go into the development of a big-budget AAA videogame based on Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible series, presumably starring the titular superhero as a playable character.

Game development is being handled by a 30-person studio consisting of staff from Epic Games, Electronic Arts, Amazon Games and Activision Blizzard, and headed by head of games publishing Chris Paulson and EVP of games production Patrick Gilmore. On the crowdfunding page, the game is described as a, “first-of-its-kind Invincible experience,” with, “cutting-edge competitive gameplay, premium production values, and the most advanced online and technical foundations.”

The page confirms this Invincible game will feature an online multiplayer component as well, with both competitive and local play modes. The game will release, “under a premium model,” with multiple DLC expansions and special editions already planned. The page’s wording suggests that this game is also planned to adopt a live-service model, as Skybound plans to add, “future releases, expansions, new character arcs and adventures for years to come.”

Crowdfunding for the Invincible game will end on April 30, after which we’ll have to wait for confirmation to see if development on the project actually moves forward.
