This week, we’re diving into our backlog for preem content in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. How about you?
After the onslaught of new game releases over the last few months, it’s actually refreshing to have a week without new games - but that’s where we’re at! There is absolutely nothing new to play this week (except a retro collection we’ll talk about in a bit), so this is a good chance to go back to your old multiplayer favourites and grind a few games out. Either that, or check out your backlog. 2023 is almost over, and you must have a few games lying around that you were planning to get to eventually. Just pick one! It might surprise you.
What we’re playing this week
There is one new release this week: Limited Run Games’ Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection launching on November 22. This is a collection of seven 8-bit and 16-bit games from way, way back in the Jurassic Park games franchise, including Jurassic Park Genesis and Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues. If you just want to boot up some old games for the kicks, it’s available on all main platforms including Steam.
Personally, I’m diving into my backlog for holiday gaming. Valve’s 25th Anniversary update for Half-Life is a great reason to revisit the seminal first-person shooter this week, especially since it’s free-to-keep for a limited time only. I’m going to check that out for a few hours, but I’ll likely be more busy wrapping up Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. This expansion was released smack dab in the middle of major RPGs like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3, so I’m only getting my hands on it now, and it’s actually great!
I’m not buying any of that ‘the game is fixed’ propaganda, though. It’s been three years since Cyberpunk 2077 launched, and it’s still crashed six times since I started playing the expansion! Yikes.
What we’re watching this week
If you’re not looking for games to play, there is a bevvy of exciting TV on this week to look out for. First up is the truly momentous return of David Tennant to Doctor Who as the Fourteenth Doctor. Tennant played the fan-favourite Tenth Doctor all the way back in 2006, and returns to his beloved role for a series of three specials before the show moves on to Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. The first special, titled The Star Beast, airs on November 25. Personally, Eleven’s my favourite of the modern Doctors - but who doesn’t love Ten? Besides Ten, I mean.
Don’t worry though, it’s not all about Doctor Who this week. FX’s dry dramedy Fargo returns for a fifth season with all-star talent: Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lamorne Morris (New Girl) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight) among others. This season follows a Midwestern housewife whose mysterious past lands her in hot water with the authorities. This is Fargo, so you can bet on there being crime and hijinks, and all of it being very silly.
Disney’s animated musical Wish also hits theatres this week, and a new episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters goes live on Apple TV+ on Friday. Monarch is shaping up to be something really special, following the aftermath of Godzilla’s appearance in San Francisco through the lens of the titular kaiju-researching organisation.
That's it for me. What are you watching and playing this week?
