Leon S. Kennedy returns to take on more monsters in the first trailer for Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake.

It’s official: Capcom is remaking its classic horror-survival game Resident Evil 4 with modern visuals, and a very traumatised Leon S. Kennedy. The game will hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on March 24, 2023 with additional content for the upcoming PlayStation VR2 system.

Watch the spookiness unfold below:

Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake follows up on Leon S. Kennedy’s horrific tribulations in Resident Evil 2 Remake, preserving the spirit of the horror classic while updating the story to better fit the new Resident Evil timeline. Capcom specifically says:

We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it. This is being done by reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics and updating the controls to a modern standard.

In Resident Evil 4, six years have passed since the Racoon City disaster in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Leon S. Kennedy has since been recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president of the United States, and is sent in to rescue the president’s kidnapped daughter. After tracking her to an isolated European village however, Leon finds that something has gone terribly wrong with its villagers. Hint: they're very, very sick now!

The game’s new visuals look absolutely stunning, from the newly-updated castle and lighting to Ada Wong’s redesign and the shambling, maniacal villagers. While the story has been mostly preserved, it looks like Leon is less confident in this adventure than before, with the trailer hinting that he's still upset over the destruction of Racoon City. This time, Leon is determined to have things end differently.

The Resident Evil 4 remake launches two years after Resident Evil Village, which drew inspiration from its Gothic European setting. Village was also announced to be fully playable in VR on the PlayStation VR2, with players now being able to dual-wield guns. In case you missed it, we also got new looks at Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy XVI today!
