The first Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer from Disney+ has the Jedi hunted down by Sith Inquisitors

Disney+ has released the first trailer for Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The trailer for Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi has finally dropped, giving us our first look at Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the titular Jedi Master. This series is set after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope in the Star Wars timeline, when Obi-Wan’s spirit has been broken and the Empire has risen to power.

Watch the trailer below:

The trailer begins with Obi-Wan trying to live in isolation on the desert planet of Tatooine as he watches over Luke Skywalker in secret. It looks like his cover is eventually blown however, as we see Sith Inquisitors dispatched to hunt the Jedi down. The Inquisitors - last seen in Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - are Force-sensitive underlings of Darth Vader tasked with hunting down Jedi who survived Order 66.

The Inquisitors are no small threat. Rupert Friend plays the Grand Inquisitor, complete with his signature spinning lightsaber, while Sung Kang plays the Fifth Brother. Moses Ingram plays the Third Sister Reva, who is seen in the trailer interrogating Luke’s guardian Owen Lars in Tatooine. Joel Edgerton reprises his role as Owen Lars from Revenge of the Sith, and it looks like he’ll have a meaty role in this series. Series director Deborah Chow told EW, “Thank you, George [Lucas], for casting Joel Edgerton as Uncle Owen. That's all I can say."

For those suffering from Tatooine fatigue after The Book of Boba Fett, never fear. Obi-Wan won’t be spending all his time on these sandy dunes. The trailer places the Jedi on a new planet called Daiyu, which writer Joby Harold says, “sort of has a Hong Kong feel to it.” The planet has an urban graffiti-ridden aesthetic with a thriving nightlife, almost like Coruscant’s seedy underbelly.

The trailer concludes with Darth Vader’s ominous breathing, hinting at Hayden Christensen’s return as Anakin Skywalker. The series was originally described as, “the rematch of the century,” bringing Anakin and Obi-Wan back together years before their final meeting in A New Hope. Obi-Wan Kenobi also stars Kumail Nanjiani, Benny Safdie, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Bonnie Piesse, Indira Varma, Simone Kessell and Maya Erskine.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s six-episode first season will hit Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
