Xtreme Gaming has taken out tournament favorites in back-to-back upsets at DreamLeague Season 27.
Xtreme Gaming is now back in contention! The Chinese Dota 2 powerhouse outlasted reigning world champions
Team Falcons at DreamLeague Season 27, winning an elimination series with a commanding 2–0 sweep. Just hours later, they delivered another 2–0 upset, taking down tournament favourites
Tundra Esports.
This dominant form came unexpectedly. A few months ago, the top Chinese team made waves at this year’s championship, finishing as runners-up at The International (TI) 2025 after a near-flawless performance, falling only to Team Falcons, who eventually lifted the coveted Aegis.
However, heading into the 2025/2026 season, Xtreme Gaming underwent a significant roster shuffle, welcoming former
Team Tidebound midlaner Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang and the returning legend
Xu “fy” Linsen to the lineup. On paper, the new roster appeared stronger than before, even reminiscent of the iconic
LGD Gaming squad. But the team initially struggled to adapt.
Xtreme finished 9th–11th at PGL Wallachia Season 6 and 7th–10th at BLAST Slam V–a disappointing start following their incredible TI showing. This dampened hopes of seeing the Chinese squad remain among the top contenders, especially after such a prolonged drought for the region.
To the surprise of many, Xtreme pulled up at DreamLeague Season 28 with a remarkable improvement almost overnight. They managed to join the final eight lineup after an impressive group-stage performance. Despite suffering costly losses to
BetBoom Team and
Virtus.pro, they managed four wins against
Nigma Galaxy,
Runa Team,
Team Yandex, and
Natus Vincere–claiming just enough wins to advance.
Xtreme's Playoffs run did not begin smoothly, with them falling to a red-hot
Team Spirit in the opening round. However, they have since mounted an impressive lower-bracket run, sweeping top contenders Team Falcons and Tundra Esports in back-to-back series.
Xtreme Gaming eliminate tournament favorites
Against Falcons, Xtreme delivered a dominant performance marked by calculated pickoffs and rapid responses. Wang “Ame” Chunyu stood out on the relatively new hero Kez on both maps, raking in high net-worths plus a solid 15/5/29 KDA. While Xtreme appeared dominant, Falcons was unusually out of sync, unable to secure an early-game advantage and struggled to win even minor skirmishes. These factors culminated in a swift and convincing 2–0 victory for Xtreme–their first successful revenge since their TI finals heartbreak last September.
Riding that momentum, Xtreme claimed another major win just hours later as they continued their lower-bracket journey against Tundra Esports. Xtreme showcased exceptional teamwork and decision-making, constantly outlasting Tundra in fights. While the first game was a quick 31-minute victory, the second turned out into a hard-fought map. Fy's Spirit Breaker delivered a strong showing, successfully disrupting Tundra's pacing in many different instances.
DreamLeague Season 27 approaches its end
Day three of the Playoffs, running later tonight, will feature crucial matches to determine the final four teams at DreamLeague Season 27. Team Spirit and
Team Yandex will clash in the Upper Bracket Finals, where the first grand finalist will be decided. Meanwhile, lower-bracket action continues as
PARIVISION faces
OG, with the winner advancing to challenge Xtreme Gaming.
DreamLeague Season 27 is the final major Dota 2 tournament of the year, set to conclude on 21 December. The champion will grab a major slice of the US$1 million prize pool as well as 3,000 ESL Pro Tour (EPT) Points.
