GamerLegion enters Dota 2 by acquiring the North American Apex Genesis roster

GamerLegion, best known for its notable Counter-Strike 2 roster, has entered the Dota 2 scene by acquiring the former Wildcard lineup.

German organisation, GamerLegion, best known for its top-tier Counter-Strike team, has officially entered the Dota 2 scene by acquiring the players on North America's Apex Genesis. The announcement came on 12 November, where the organisation revealed their new players: Luke “YamSun” Wang, Francis “RCY” Fundemera, Victor “Fayde” Zuev, Danilo “Bignum-” Shehovstov, and Paul “Speeed” Bocchicchio that previously played under Wildcard.

This move marks GamerLegion’s expansion into its fourth esports title, having previously fielded teams in League of Legends, Tekken, and Age of Empires–though some of these divisions are currently inactive or have since disbanded.

Making its entry into the ever-competitive Dota 2 landscape, GamerLegion has picked up the Apex Genesis roster, featuring some of the top players in North America. The lineup formerly represented Wildcard during the 2024/2025 season, where it gradually climbed to become one of the strongest teams in the region.

Throughout the previous season, the roster maintained a fierce rivalry with Shopify Rebellion, eventually overcoming them in a decisive showdown to secure North America’s sole slot at The International 2025.

Heading into the 2025/2026 season, Wildcard continued its regional dominance, swiftly qualifying for two Tier 1 events–PGL Wallachia Season 6 and DreamLeague Season 27. However, despite promising performances and several major appearances already secured, Wildcard unexpectedly released its Dota 2 roster in October.

Fortunately for fans, the players chose to stay together, reverting to their previous banner, Apex Genesis, and competing in FISSURE Universe: Episode 7 during the early season stretch.

With GamerLegion’s acquisition, the Apex Genesis roster now embarks on a fresh chapter under a new banner. Many fans expect the organisation to become North America’s next powerhouse, especially given the current lack of strong competition in the region.

The NA Dota 2 scene has struggled to bring strong competition since the past few years, most apparent after Evil Geniuses disbanded its NA team in late 2021. Since then, the region has been unstable with teams going in-and-out of the region. Within the past year, NA witnessed Nouns Esports disbanding in November 2024 and Shopify Rebellion exiting Dota 2 entirely in July 2025. This leaves a major competitive gap for GamerLegion to fill.

GamerLegion's Dota 2 debut is around the corner

GamerLegion will make its immediate debut in top-tier Dota 2 competition at PGL Wallachia Season 6, kicking off this Saturday, 15 November. The team will face a formidable lineup of the world's top Dota 2 contenders, including PARIVISION, Team Spirit, and three-time BLAST Slam champions Tundra Esports.

Following that, the team will also compete in DreamLeague Season 27, the final major tournament of the year, scheduled to run from 10 to 21 December with a stacked lineup of 24 teams.
