Dota 2 EWC Group Stage Day 2: Team Liquid stay perfect with sweep over PARIVISION

Team Liquid continue to dominate PARIVISION, extending their win streak over their new rivals to seven straight games.

Day two of the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025's Dota 2 competition wrapped up with several significant defeats and wins. Certain powerhouses showed struggle when paired against equally strong peers and are in danger of losing the top-seed position. Meanwhile, a few underdogs maintain a strong scoreline so far, keeping them steady in the race.

The round-robin Group Stage divided teams into groups of four, where they collect points in best-of-two (BO2) matches. The top of each group will directly qualify for the Playoffs and secure a Top 8 placement. Meanwhile, the rest of the field will be sorted into the Elimination Phase, where they fight for their lives in the tournament.

Team Liquid continue their perfect start to the tournament with a sweep over PARIVISION, giving the reigning The International (TI) champions a clean 4-0 record and the top spot in Group D.

Meanwhile, Virtus.pro (VP) suffered the most with two consecutive series losses in the past two days, losing 0-2 against Tundra Esports and Team Yandex. This means they have lost any chances to grab first place in Group C. The Eastern European team is the first participant to officially join the Elimination Phase lineup.

Dota 2 EWC Group Stage Day 2 Recap

Group A

Team Spirit 2-0 Talon Esports

The two-time TI champions had a swift series against Southeast Asia’s strongest rep. Team Spirit took down Talon Esports in only 27 minutes in the first game despite losing their laning stage, as Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk’s Chaos Knight quickly recuperated and gained unstoppable momentum. The second game was a steady 37-minute victory for Spirit.

Xtreme Gaming 0-2 NAVI

Chinese all-star team Xtreme Gaming (XG) struggled on day two, losing both maps against the dark horses, Natus Vincere (NAVI). The first game was a strong showing for NAVI, but XG made a statement in game two, dominating the laning phase and mid-game. However, they tragically fell off as NAVI pulled off a comeback by the 39-minute mark and ended the game just three minutes later.

Group B

BetBoom Team 2-0 Team Falcons

This series between two prominent teams unfolded in huge favor of BetBoom Team, as they took down Team Falcons in both maps. The first game was a back-and-forth affair though BetBoom secured better teamfight wins, notably with an unorthodox Hoodwink carry on Pure. The next was a gradual victory for BetBoom, winning all lanes and eventually snowballing to victory at 62 minutes.

Gaimin Gladiators 2-0 Execration

Despite a decent start for the underdog on day one, Execration struggled against a more robust Gaimin Gladiators in the next. Execration and Gaimin had an even laning phase, however, the latter swiftly took over both maps as they executed better mid-game plays, ending both at 32 and 33 minutes, respectively.

Group C

Tundra Esports 1-1 Aurora Gaming

This was an entertaining series between two powerhouses in Tundra Esports and Aurora Gaming. The first map saw the net worth swing back and forth regularly, but toward the end, Aurora had the advantage secured. However, Tundra won a clutch teamfight and immediately sieged the Tier 4 towers, pulling off a last-minute comeback. Aurora redeemed themselves in the second game, winning in dominant fashion.

Virtus.pro 0-2 Team Yandex

VP suffered the most in the first two days of the EWC, failing to secure any wins after another 0-2 loss against its fellow Eastern European opponent and relatively weaker underdog, Team Yandex. This particular series stings for VP, as they could barely secure any kills on both maps—the first game ending with a 34-4 kill score, and the second with 8-34.

Group D

PARIVISION 0-2 Team Liquid

Current TI champions Liquid just keep outsmarting the scene's new Eastern European powerhouse. The team stomped PARIVISION in the first game, crushing all lanes and swiftly snowballing to victory in just 25 minutes—the quickest win on day two. The next game was a better fight for PARIVISION, but despite an even laning phase, Liquid easily took control of the mid-game and secured another strong win.

This 2-0 sweep against PARIVISION marks their third consecutive victory over the season’s top team, having won five straight games against them in PGL Wallachia Season 5.

HEROIC 2-0 Shopify Rebellion

HEROIC managed to take down fellow underdog Shopify Rebellion on both maps, gaining an edge in the Group D rankings. The South American representatives steadily dominated the first map, leaving no openings for SR to capitalize on. The second game was an equally commanding victory. Despite a hiccup in the mid-game, HEROIC gradually recovered and powered through SR’s defenses to secure the win at the 71-minute mark.

Current Dota 2 EWC Group Stage rankings:

  3. Team Spirit 0-1-1
  4. Xtreme Gaming 0-1-1

Group B

  1. BetBoom Team 1-1-0

The second day results are starting to shape the rankings more clearly. Virtus.pro is the first team to fail for the top group placement, and they’ll have to go through the Elimination Phase. Shopify Rebellion is close to miss out on the top position and is likely to join VP soon. But those heading for the Elimination Phase is not completely out of the game and will have room for recovery.
