OG bomb out of The International 2026 with loss to GamerLegion

The lone North American team at TI 2026 stay alive by knocking out Southeast Asia's only representative.

North America's GamerLegion have kept their run at The International (TI) 2026 alive by eliminating Southeast Asia's OG in a 2-0 sweep in their 1-3 elimination match in Round 5 of the tournament's Group Stage on Saturday (15 August).

With their victory, GamerLegion advance to the TI 2026 Elimination Stage on Sunday (16 August) where they will have another do-or-die match. A victory there will earn them a spot in the Playoffs while a loss means the end of their campaign for this year's Aegis of Champions.

Meanwhile, OG bomb out of the tournament in 14th-15th place and with an estimated US$30,000 in consolation. It's a very disappointing result for the lone Southeast Asian team in TI 2026 who are also playing under the banner of two-time TI champion organisation OG.

GamerLegion and OG struggle in TI 2026 ahead of Round 5 do-or-die match

Both GamerLegion and OG entered TI 2026 with not much in the way of expectations as the lone representatives of two struggling regions in the Dota 2 esports scene.

Round 1 of the Group Stage saw both squads get swept by Eastern European powerhouses, with OG getting demolished by BoomBoys (aka BetBoom Team) and GamerLegion getting crushed by Aurora Gaming.

GamerLegion then managed to bounce back in Round 2 by making short work of Chinese team Xtreme Gaming. However, OG continued struggling with another 0-2 loss to  Nigma Galaxy. Both sides then fell to Chinese opponents in Round 3, with OG suffering their third straight 0-2 loss at the hands of Team Resilience while GamerLegion were defeated by Vici Gaming in a 2-1 reverse sweep.

It would take until the third day of the Group Stage for OG to finally score a victory. The Filipino squad defeated HULIGANI (aka L1GA TEAM) in three games to avoid bombing out of TI 2026 in last place. Meanwhile, GamerLegion were handed a consecutive 1-2 series loss by defending champions Team Falcons.

That then set up a do-or-die showdown between GamerLegion and OG in the fifth and final round of the Group Stage, with a spot in the Elimination Stage at stake.

GamerLegion sweep OG out of TI 2026

GamerLegion entered the series looking to get aggressive early with Daniel Chan “Ghost” Kok Hong on Lina, Francis “RCY” Fundemera on Earth Spirit, Victor “Fayde” Zuev on Dawnbreaker, Danilo “Bignum-” Shehovstov on Dark Willow, and Paul “Speeed” Bocchicchio on Winter Wyvern. Meanwhile, OG opted for a more late game-centric draft anchored by John Anthony “Natsumi-” Vargas' Phantom Lancer with Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer's Primal Beast, Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto's Night Stalker, Timothy “TIMS” Randrup' Windranger, and Rolen Andre Gabriel “Skem” Ong's Mirana providing support.

GamerLegion dominated the early game thanks in large part to excellent play from RCY. GamerLegion's own Filipino mid laner sparked his team's fiery start by drawing First Blood on Yopaj then scoring an additional kill when Skem teleported in for the counter-gank.

With their playmaker hamstrung, OG could only play defensively in the hopes that Natsumi could eventually carry them in the late game. Unfortunately, they would never get there as GamerLegion kept their foot on the gas and eventually forced the ‘GG’ call from OG after a 34-minute rout.

RCY fueled GamerLegion's dominance with nine kills and nine assists on just one death out of his team's 25-10 kill lead. Ghost added a clean six kills and seven assists while Fayde pitched in with five kills and nine assists against one death.

Game two then saw OG look to force a decider with a draft built on winning lanes then snowballing with a mid game power spike. To that end, Natsumi had Windranger, Yopaj had Slardar, Raven had Viper, Tims had Hoodwink, and Skem had Undying. GamerLegion opted to match their opponents' early aggression with Ghost on Necrophos, RCY on Ember Spirit, Fayde on Centaur Warrunner, Bignum on Dark Willow again, and Speed on Mirana.

OG had a much better start in game two, as they managed to score three early kills on Ghost within the first 11 minutes of the game. However, they still handily lost the laning stage and did not have the firepower to match GamerLegion once the latter began their mid game push. Despite OG's best efforts to mount a comeback, GamerLegion simply swatted them off and secured the series sweep after a 31-minute stomp.

Despite a promising start for OG in game two, it ended up an even more one-sided affair compared to game one as GamerLegion closed out the series with a 36-9 kill lead. RCY finished with 10 kills and 18 assists on two deaths while Ghost had 10 kills and 15 assists on three deaths.

What is The International 2026?

TI 2026 will be this year's iteration of Dota 2's annual world championship tournament, taking place in August in Shanghai, China. As with previous iterations of the tournament, TI 2026 will feature a total of 16 teams that earn their spots in the tournament by receiving direct invites or earning slots through regional qualifiers.

The list of directly-invited teams to TI 2026 include Aurora Gaming, BoomBoys (aka BetBoom Team), Team Falcons, Team Liquid, Iron Wing (aka 1w Team), Xtreme Gaming, and Team Yandex. Meanwhile, the teams that earned their spots through the regional qualifiers include European qualifier winners Team Spirit, TEAM VISION (aka PARIVISION), HULIGANI, and Nigma Galaxy, North American qualifier winner GamerLegion, Southeast Asian qualifier winner OG, South American qualifier winner LGD Gaming, as well as Chinese qualifier winners Vici Gaming and Team Resilience.

TI 2026's main event will be hosted in the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. Valve first announced that Shanghai will host TI 2026 during last year's world championship tournament, where Team Falcons claimed the Aegis of Champions after defeating China's Xtreme Gaming in the five-game grand finals.

This will mark the second time that Shanghai will host TI after TI 2019, where Western Europe's OG became the first-ever two-time TI champions after defeating Team Liquid in four games to claim the grand prize of US$15.6 million, out of the US$34.3 million prize pool.

TI 2026 will be split into two phases: the ‘Road to The International’ and ‘The International’ main event. The Road to The International will be a Swiss-style Group Stage from 13 to 16 August, where the 16 teams will be cut down to the final eight that will play in the game's biggest stage from 20 to 23 August in Shanghai's Oriental Sports Center.

TI 2026's prize pool follows that of previous editions, with a US$1.6 million base prize pool that will then be boosted through sales of the TI 2026 Compendium.
