Warriors Gaming Unity: The schedule conundrum

The end of 2016 is overloaded with events for some of the teams, and WG Unity’s make no exception having to pick and choose which tournament is more important for them.

The Malaysian squad, Warriors Gaming Unity raised a list of concerns and complaints on their Facebook page yesterday, when they found out Valve will not provide Business Class flight tickets for The Boston Major. Citing that a 26 hour flight (Malaysia - Boston) in Economic Class will be tiring for any of the teams attending the upcoming Major, WG Unity said on their post that they would actually be ok with the treatment as long as all the teams get the same economic tickets. However, they go afterwards saying that this might not only jeopardise their performance at the event but also puts their presence in China for the WCA LAN finals in danger.

According to WG Unity, WCA decided to change the dates for the LAN event without updating them on the official tournament website as well, and will now run from the 9th to 12th of December instead of 15th to 18th as it was initially announced. This of course messes up the schedule for WG Unity as the Boston Major ends on the 10th and the flight from Boston to China is a 32 hour trip.

On top of everything, WG Unity might not be able to attend ESL One Genting special Malaysian qualifiers at all as the organizers scheduled them in an offline setup on December 17 - 18, which will clash with WCA.

As ESL already responded to WG Unity saying no other dates were possible for the Malaysian qualifiers, therefore this has no chance of being rescheduled, Matthew 'Cyborgmatt' Bailey suggested the following:

Although WG Unity’s last sentence from the yesterday’s post, ended with “Anyone have Gaben phone number? I need his help badly”, the team reviewed their statement and came back with another post to clarify the fact that they were not trying to get Valve’s attention but rather to simply voice their schedule conflicts. Considering themselves “just a small team that got lucky to qualify to a big tournament” WG Unity explains that the ending sentence from the previous post was just a joke, and it was never meant as a real request.
