The D2CL group stages have concluded with Burden United finding themselves at the top of the group, securing their spot in the playoffs, besting proven European teams like Empire and NiP.
Stage one of the EU qualifiers in the D2CL has ended, with the surprise result of Burden United moving onto the playoffs; having topped the group. The second to fifth team in the groups move onto a double elimination best-of-three bracket to decide the two European teams who will proceed to join Vici Gaming and Burden United in the playoffs, fighting for the $50 000 base prize pool.
BUrden have put on an impressive performance in the groups, besting some of the most renowned teams in Europe like NiP and Empire; what makes this feat even more impressive is that they were originally not invited to the tournament, only invited to replace MeePwn'd. In addition to this, BUrden managed to top the group cleanly, with no tiebreakers needed, having one more point than the second place team, Hellraisers.
Among the games BUrden played, their most impressive results were their 2-0 of both Empire and NiP, teams that viewers were not expecting to be taken down by a team who lost to Moscow5 2-1 and Virtus.Pro 1-2. Empire and NiP havetaken down top teams like Aliiance (2-0 by NiP) and Virtus.Pro (2-0 by Empire) as a testament to their performance.
As for other surprising results, Empire, a team who dominated the EU and CIS scene in March with a 14-6 win-loss, finds themselves third place in the groups, below Hellraisers and BUrden, two teams who are placed lower than them by a significant amount on Gosurankings. Power Ranger's 2-0 of NiP also come as a surprise as PR, without a full roster and putting up a weak performance recently with a 15% win-loss in March, took down a NiP who has taken down teams like Alliance (2-0) and Cloud9 (1-0).
