D8TV, the organization behind World eSports Championship, just announced the cancellation of the WEC Western Qualifiers. Instead, Evil Geniuses, Cloud9 and a new unknown squad have joined Titan and Newbee in the Hangzhou LAN finals team roster.
With a surprising announcement earlier today, D8TV has cancelled the Western Qualifiers for the World eSports Championship (WEC) scheduled to take place from September 5th through 7th at the Yellow Dragon Stadium in Hangzhou, China. The qualifiers were supposed to determine the squads from America and Europe that would join NewBee and Titan in the upcoming offline event.
Instead, three teams have received a direct seed in the LAN finals. Two of them are known - Evil Geniuses and Cloud9, both participants of the TI4 Main Event. However, the third team is new, and unknown. The organization did not include the name in their announcement, but we do know that it includes five European members and two TI champions. The only players that meet this description are current and former members of Natus Vincere and Alliance.
It should be noted that three more teams will have the chance to reach the Hangzhou finals through the upcoming Chinese qualifiers. Only time will tell which players will be flying to China this September. One thing is certain - it is going to be a very interesting tournament.
