D2CL #3 : Semi-Finals approaching, RoX.KIS disqualified

This will be a decisive week for D2 Champions League Season 3, as four teams will battle in the best-of-five semi-finals for the two Grand Final spots. RoX.KIS were given a default loss for using a second stand-in player, in direct violation of the tournament's rules.

The third season of DotA2 Champions League is about to conclude, with the semi-finals scheduled to begin this week. The two best-of-five matches will decide the two Grand Finalists and the two teams that move to the Consolation Final. The total prize pool is currently about $67,000, making D2CL one of the most prestigious online-only events in 2014.

Alliance and Empire had already secured their playoff spot through their first-place finish in their respective groups. However, Fnatic and Power Rangers had to go through the best-of-three matches of the second round. While PR had to overcome the obstacle of the American giants EG, Fnatic had an easier task. Their opponent, RoX.KIS, played the first match with a stand-in player, different from the one they used earlier in the tournament. The use of a second stand-in player is forbidden by the tournament rules. RoX.KIS's attempt to disguise the new player with a fake nickname was intercepted by the D2CL organization, resulting in the disqualification of the Russian squad.

The first playoff match between PR and Empire is scheduled to take place on June 3rd, at 18:00 CEST. Our match ticker will inform you about the time and date of the second match as soon as this information is released.
