The three best of one tiebreakers have just concluded, with Alliance winning the tied tiebreakers based on fastest time. Alliance will be joining Cloud9 and booking their flights to Shanghai.
The tiebreakers were played in three best of ones between Empire, Sigma and Alliance. The team that won both their matches would end up winning the second qualifier spot in WPC-ACE. In the event of another three-way tie, the team who won in the shortest time would progress.
Empire took the first match against Sigma, forcing Sigma to call the GG at 37:23 after a snowball lineup got out of control. With the time objective in mind, Alliance played a push-heavy lineup with Loda on Death Prophet. However, Sigma's base defence allowed them to push the game back, with Pajkatt's 6-slotted Weaver eventually carrying Sigma to victory 57 minutes in.
The last match, between Alliance and Empire, put a heavy burden on Alliance as they would have to win within 37 minutes to ensure their qualification. Alliance managed to take the game within 23 minutes instead, on the back of almost flawless play by the entire team, with Loda ending the game 16/0/14, including two ultra kills before the 16 minute mark.
Alliance will fly to Shanghai to take part in the pre-playoffs, which will begin on 22 May. The actual playoffs will begin on 30 May, and will last for 5 days until 3 June. They are guaranteed ~$3,600 for making it to the playoffs, and will have a shot at the ~$161,000 top prize.
The next matches in WPC-ACE will return with the Chinese group stage, which will continue on April 18th, April 19th and April 20th. A total of eight matches to be held in the week. All the Chinese participants but Orenda, DK and iG will get their playtime, with Tongfu.Wanzhou having four matches scheduled. The teams will have the chance to grab some valuable points in their best-of-two clashes, aiming for one of the top six positions that lead to the playoffs.
