Take5 disqualified from MLG after unregistered roster changes

Take5 are officially disqualified from MLG Championship, after the use of unregistered stand-in players in their latest qualifier match. The team will not have the chance to go to Columbus to participate in the offline phase of the tournament.

This is a sad day for the fans of Take5, the NA squad that impressed with their recent victories in MLG and ESL qualifiers. Jimmy 'DeMoN' Ho announced on his twitter page that the team will not be going to Columbus, as they have been disqualified due to the use of certain stand-in players without informing the tournament organization.

Just got the news, we are disqualified from @MLG because we used players not on our roster. Sorry for those hoping to see us in Columbus :(

Adam Apicella, Executive Vice President of Major League Gaming, made the following statement on Reddit:

Take5 reached out to us about a roster change on 10/3. We let them know they could make additions to their roster prior to their first match. However, they made no additions to their roster. On 10/7, the day of their first match, they played a match with 2 stand ins that were not on their registered tournament roster, resulting in a DQ.

Their original tournament roster consisted of:

  • Arteezy
  • Darkfalco
  • Demon
  • Mason
  • Pandaego

On the night of 10/7 Arteezy and Demon did not show up and were replaced by players that were not on the official roster.

The decision received a lot of negative feedback from the team supporters and many personalities of the DotA2 scene. There were many responses on twitter and Reddit criticizing the tournament rules that led to the removal of Take5 from the Championship.

According to MLG's official site, a default 2-0 victory has been given to the opponents of Take5, VexX Gaming.
