American DotA League Semifinals Concluded

Following two action-packed days of semifinal play, only two teams remain standing among America's best as the first edition of American DotA League reaches its climax.

The first semifinal saw a back-and-forth battle between two American representatives at The International 3. Team Liquid twice took the lead but Dignitas responded admirably both times and took the series down to the wire with a deciding Game 5. It was an anticlimatic Game 5, though, as Team Liquid quickly sieged through Dignitas base thanks to a 20-minute Scythe of Vyse on Bulba's Tinker and forced their compatriots to call GG after just 23 minutes of play. Coincidentally but interestingly, teams on the Radiant side managed to win all five games in this series.

Evil Geniuses vs. Denial Esports

Meanwhile, there was nowhere near as much thrill and drama in the other semifinal, as Evil Geniuses easily swept aside Denial Esports in three games. It was an impressive display from the American powerhouse as they barely broke a sweat throughout the series. The game time said it all, as none of the three games took longer than 35 minutes. Despite unconventional picks such as Broodmother in Game 1 or the trio of Meepo/Timbersaw/Death Prophet in Game 3, EG was still able to dominate the Peruvians and punched their ticket to the final of the American DotA League. With a sweep today, EG remains undefeated (19-0) in this tournament.

With their victories, Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses will advance to the final in what promises to be an interesting best-of-five matchup between two teams who know each other really well. They are 5-5 in their last ten official encounters, with EG winning the most recent matchup in the Round Robin of the American DotA League.

The final will be played tomorrow July 7th, starting at 2 P.M. ET (9 P.M. CEST), while the third-place decider between Denial Esports and Dignitas will be played July 8th at the same timeslot.
