The International 3 Western draft in a nutshell

The International West Qualifier is over, 39 games have been played. Io, Batrider and Lifestealer were never ignored. Lone Druid crushes through the bracket with 13-4 stats and Magnus is down to 5-10.

Lifestealer and Io were the right guesses for the Compendium concerning most picked and banned. The playoffs of TI3 qualifiers West have increased the number of matches played to 39 (from 23). Time for an evaluation of the top picks and bans, the most and the least successful heroes of last week.

Lifestealer, Gyrocopter and Shadow Demon remain top picks

If you have voted for Lifestealer in The International Compendium, you were right: In 27 out of 39 games, the Lifestealer was picked, that's four times more often than Gyrocopter. The two carries are followed by a number of supporters: Shadow Demon, Rubick and Bane Elemental are P3 to P5 in the most picked heroes table. The playoffs of the West qualifier didn't change much about the ranking of the top picks.

The top picks however, often were not the most successful heroes. Only Lone Druid has a significantly positve win-loss-ratio and he's just the sixth most picked hero in the 39 games of the Qualifier.

Io completely left Batrider way behind in bans

While Io and Batrider were pretty close together in number of bans during the first four days, the playoffs have increased Io's lead massively. He was now banned in more than 90% of all games, while Batrider well down below 70% total bans. No other heroes were banned in more than half of the games: Dark Seer, Keeper of the Light, Magnus and Nature's Prophet ended up with 19 to 18 bans. One of the reasons are team-specific bans like the more frequent ban of Nature's Prophet against the Qualifier Winners mousesports.

Batrider, Io and Lifestealer never ignored

Even after the playoffs, there was not a single game in which either Batrider, Io or Lifestealer were ever ignored during the 20-hero-long draft. In all 39 games, they were either picked or banned, with Lifestealer of course being rather picked, and Io rather banned. The meta game relevance is particularly high also for popular picks like Gyrocopter, Shadow Demon and Magnus, as well as Keeper of the Light and Dark Seer.

Lone Druid crushing through the playoff phase

While Keeper of the Light was the most successful after the group phase of the West Qualifier, Lone Druid has fought his way through the playoffs very convincingly. Winning more than three quarters of his matches and being picked up 17 times, he finishes the bracket with a 13-4 record. Puck also made his way back to a successful pick, ending with a 10-6 record. Concerning efficiency, Slark has the highest winning percentage of all heroes with at least 5 games played.

Have teams finally managed to beat Magnus?

While Nature's Prophet has struggled in the first week, he didn't get many appereances in the second week, partially due to frequent bans of Furion against team mousesports. The most pressured hero during the playoffs has turned out the be Magnus. We decreased is performance to a 5-10 final record, having the lowest win-loss-difference and the second worst winning percentage.
