compLexity Gaming adds yay to roster

The AWPer will replace Kia "Surreal" Man a week after it was announced that Surreal was parting ways with the organization.

Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker will be taking over the AWPer role and fill in the hole left by Surreal, compLexity announced earlier this week. Yay is a newcomer to the professional esports scene, having most recently played for the now-disbanded Synthetik Gaming and, before that, placed second overall in Fragadelphia 10, losing to eUnited in a 0:2 Grand Final.

According to Kyle Bautista, the General Manager of compLexity Gaming, it wasn't his resume that got him the job.

“When we began looking at new players for the AWP role, yay was not at the top of the list," Bautista said in the acquisition announcement. "It took just one practice session to change that opinion... His youth may be just what is needed to rejuvenate the squad and kickstart our results in the upcoming season. We’re excited to be taking a chance on a young gun, and we hope it pays off!"

CompLexity most recently placed 11th in ESL Pro League Season 5 NA. The team has been struggling to reach anything higher than fifth place in Majors or Premieres since the start of 2017, with a 13-16 place finish in DreamHack Masters Las Vegas back in February and a 5-8th range finish in the iBUYPOWER Invitational 2017 Spring tournament.
