People would mostly say that Virtus.Pro could win this easily, but G2 Esports showed that they are not any other medium team. The map pick was a little surprising because G2 Esports didn’t ban de_train, which everyone knows it’s almost home for the Polish team. de_cache was the chosen map for G2 and de_train, as expected, for VP. The deciding map radomly picked was de_mirage.
Cache started with Virtus.Pro at the CT side and G2 at the T side. The polish team won the pistol round and it started to look it would be an easy first half for VP, but G2 woke up and Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad started to have a great game. G2 started to win and create a certain lead, but Filip “NEO” Kubski got the AWP and stopped their round winning streak. Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski helped NEO and the first half finished 8-7, with G2 on the lead. The second half however, was very one sided, with jkaem carrying his team and showing with no doubt that he was a really good replacement for ScreaM. The first map ended with a G2 Esports win, with a score of 16-10, jkaem clearly being the best player with 32 kills and the 30 frags of Snax wasn’t enought to stop them.
Virtus.Pro was looking ahead for the second map, which was de_train and it was expected that they easily win it and take it to the third map, which was de_mirage, another really good map for VP. Sadly G2 had another plans for the Polish team and had a really good start at train where they looked dominating. They opened really good with the advantage, but Virtus.Pro woke up and started to make their lead smaller and the first half finished with a score of 9-6 for G2. The second half started and the winning team won the second pistol round, creating a lead of 6 rounds, a 12-6 score, but the polish team didn’t give up and they started to win a lot of rounds, with all the players of the team playing their best. VP got to 15-13 lead, but G2 was somehow able to tie it and go to overtime. The first half of OT was won by VP with a 17-16 score, a very close game, but G2 Esports started to show that they may be not known for being a top tier team, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t beat a former major winner. Mikail "Maikelele" Bill and his team started to win one after another round and the OT finished with a G2 Esports on the top of it with a score of 19-17, with them advancing to the semi-finals with a very surprising 2-0 against Virtus.Pro, one of the best 3 teams in the world.
