Grubby wins WCG, dream final lives up to its name

First game was played out on Turtle Rock, as Grubby spawned at the '4 o clock position and Moon at '12. Both players stuck to the regular heroes, Demon Hunter and Blademaster. The tension of the final could be tasted in the halls of Cologne. Both players went for creeping early on, Moon taking a turtle creep and Grubby taking the mid right creep.

Moon felt like he had to do something, and went for a push, nibbling down to red health on Grubby's grunts. Moon, not wanting to go inside the base to not get surrounded backed off, but left an Archer just in the opening of Grubby's base, trapping Grubby's units inside.
- A very irritating move, said the shoutcaster.

Moon goes for Beastmaster as second hero while Grubby picks up the Tauren Chieftain. Creep and item stealing from both sides of the booths, with Moon getting a Tome of Experience on his Beastmaster.

An innovative move came from Moon when he tried to get away from an unsuccessful creepjack; he dropped the Boots of Speed he had on his Demon Hunter to be picked up by the Beastmaster so he could get away in good health.

Moon then opted for Druids of the Talon, while Grubby went for the regular Orc army with Raiders, Spirit Walkers and Grunts. The Orc Dutchman waited a while, but then went for a Moon Well killing in Moon's base. He was able to take out 2, and then a fight emerged. Moon, who waited long to bring his army back up, moved in to chase Grubby back. Grubby snipes the Beastmaster, which Moon had to revive only til after his Moon Wells were back in play.

Healing salves, some band aids, then back in for Grubby, who advanced yet again to Moon's base and razing the hero altar just before Moon came home.

While it's looking good for Grubby, an ill fight where Moon was able to turn the game if not around then at least up to even keel.

Moon, knowing Grubby is down on low health, went for Grubby's main. Grubby had to use his Scroll of Healing, but most of the units died anyway, and could only fight with his heroes left. Moon them backing off, playing it safe and expands at the top left turtle camp, can see Grubby call GG after not being able to gather any more gold.

The second game, on Secret Valley, Grubby managed to surround Moon's Demon Hunter two times early on, first one only with four grunts. This proved costly for Moon who needed to TP twice. Grubby advanced to Moon's base taking out the shop, and then surrounding Moon's Demon Hunter for the third time. Focusing on his units left in the base, Grubby got a bit sloppy when almost losing his Blademaster to Moon's Ancient of War just outside the base - barely got out with only 1 hit point left.

Moon built up his hero count by 3, getting a Tinker quite early. Then opting for Druids of the Talon again, while Grubby went the usual. With an Unholy Aura item, Grubby gets in fighting position again, getting down many Talons, but Moon being able to pick off a high number of Raiders with incredible micromanagement. A fight that was definitely in Moon's favor.

But Grubby was quick in turning it around, killing the Demon Hunter and then advancing in on Moon. Taking down more talons, and as Moon still did not retreat from the battlefield, Tosspot said it would need a Steven Seagal-like performance for Moon to turn this around.

Getting his Tauren Chieftain up on level 5 and Warsong Battle Drums, it looked ravishingly good for Grubby as he took the last deciding fight. Luring out Moon's army so he could not use the trees for his Faerie Dragoons, Grubby manages to take out two of three heroes from Moon. Low on health, Grubby goes back to his base to gear up once again to then handle down the finishing blow.

While Moon got an expansion up and running, Grubby could find himself with no income at that moment, but with a much bigger and stronger army he looks good. Advancing in for the last time, Grubby manhandles Moon's army, triple kill on the heroes, and taking out the remaining Night Elf trees, Moon is forced to type out.

The third game on Twisted Meadows, Grubby got careless losing his Blademaster to Moon's nice surround. But Grubby quickly turned the table around after surrounding and killing of the Demon Hunter and Keeper of the Grove thanks to good Scroll of Speed usage.

Moon then opted for bears, and playing a pretty risky game for being a WCG final. Moon was able to steal a Ring of Protection from Grubby's creeping agenda at the top right creep camp, but then found himself with a nice set of Gems of Health on his Blademaster.

The Keeper of the Grove already up to level 5, and a good set of bears, Moon looks strong. But Grubby shows good timing when Moon had unloaded his zeppelin full of bears, critting the bear to death. Grubby now in a small lead, but as in the second game, Moon has an expansion.

"The two players seem inseparable," said Tosspot at this spot, but Grubby could indeed make way and separate himself as he only moments later would become a double World Cyber Games champion. Ensnaring and spirit linking, Grubby takes out many of Moon's units, and the Blademaster levels up who is very strong now. Grubby could then only advance in on Moon, eating up the bears with a kodo. Moon only left with two dryads and the Keeper and a soon to be revived Demon Hunter, has little chance against Grubby's massive Orc army. Despite taking down the Blademaster in the Night Elf base, Grubby could take the win simply running over the Night Elf.
